OMG.....IS it my setup!
« on: November 15, 2015, 05:36:01 AM »
What the heck am I missing here.  This will be a little lengthy, apologies in advance.

Firstly, I live in Colleyville,TX...anyone in the DFW area that might be able to assist if needed?

OK, here we go.

My controller setup:
2 PixLite 16 controllers w/ latest firmware.
These were setup by HolidayCoro. I also have a power box for injection. The PL16 will do 16 channels/controller. I am using 24 for my 24x150 Mega Tree

PL 16 Controller 1 is set to address 192.168.1.20 Using channels 1-6, and 9-14.
PL 16 Controller 2 is set to address 192.168.1.21 Using channels 1-6,and 9-14 as well.

Looking at the layout on the advatek software configurator, Controller 1 is set to use universe 1-16, starting channels 1 on each universe.

Controller 2 is set to use universe 17-32 again starting channels 1 on each universe. Total 510 DMX channels per universe.

XL/NL Setup.   I chose E1.31 using 16 universes at address 192.168.1.20...ie Controller 1.

I then added another set of E1.31 universes 17-32 at address 192.168.1.21. Both controllers have Unicast selected.

I then set up a quick animation sequence with just my megatree.  My model set up is 180 tree, 24 strands, 150 pixels per strand. Starting channel 1. I don't have anything else right now, as I'm troubleshooting just the tree stuff.

OK, checking the TEST Tab, all the Mega Tree channels seem to be present. However, I cannot get any test functions to work on my ribbon. Yes, output to lights is selected, ie yellow bulb lit, and all channels selected.

Since I have just updated the FW on Controller 2 I was testing that unit first.

OK, I power up controller 2 and the xtra power injection box.  Each controller lead, has a power injection lead that goes with the controller leads. IE: I have a set of leads for 1-6 controller 2, and 9-14 controller 2; same with controller 1.

I'm testing the circuits and ribbon by, hooking into output 1 and also hooking in the power injection lead.
I use the butterfly effect, the OP1 lights up fully and bright.
I then do the following using the same power injection lead in the ribbon, and switching just the Output
OP2 Lights up great
OP3 Lights up great
OP4 Lights up great
OP5 Lights up great
OP6 only lights up a small portion in the middle of the ribbon.  FYI the ribbon is still rolled up, so middle would be about the first 4 inside rings.

OK, I then hook up the power injection for outputs 9-14.  I then hook up Output 9 from controller 2 to the ribbon, as I did the first 6.
Results:
OP9-No Lights!
OP10-No LIghts!
OP11-No Lights!
OP12-No Lights!
OP13-No Lights!
OP14-No Lights!

Please, can someone shed some light on this for me.  Been working on it for the last 6 hours, pulling hair out right now!  I'm out of ideas.

I am new to the E1.31 stuff, but I felt like I understood it fairly well.

Gonna catch some shuteye.  ANY HELP Appreciated!

Thank You
David

PS Forgot, running latest 4.2.21 of XL/NC

First, test the lights via the controller, not xlights. I forgot which button, but you hold one of the buttons down for 3 seconds to test. The lights will cycle rgbw.

If this doesn't work, then there is no need to test with xlights, something in the board is not setup correctly.

If the board test fails, open the setup utility and take screenshots.

OK Phrog, just went through the setup on the PixLite 16 controller. Both controllers test fine along with the power injection.

I think I'll try a clean install of xlights, using latest version.  Might be some stray stuff.

Should I just copy my show directory to another folder, then uninstall xlights and reinstall the new version.

Also, I have made some modifications to the xlights?.xml file. I copied the monster face layout to that xml. Can't think of the name right now, it';s were the models are located. I have also done a custom mini tree setup, I don't want to loose that either. How can I restore those to models, with a fresh install?

Finally, if you have some time; could we hook up via voice; might be easier to get things done instead of going back and forth via message.

I'll try and send you a private message with my cell number. I'll then call you back, so it's my dime.

Have to run an errand, will check message upon return.

Thank You,
David

You can also use SACNView to determine to do a channel by channel check (tedious but worth the time when universes are being goofy!!!) and as a tool to watch the universe info being sent to your controller from xlights (or whatever....--even SACNView itself).  Then you can "know that you know" exactly what your universes are doing or not doing!
