Error - Unable to Load RGB Effects File
« on: November 16, 2015, 07:14:36 PM »
Okay...let me try this again... upon opening of the Xlights program, that is the error that I get, so using a backup file does not help.  I uninstalled, and reinstalled the program, that does not help.  Can one of the programmers please be of assistance on this, or if anyone else has come across this, what did you do.  Also the second error, when the program does open says that there is an XML Parsing error Not Well-formed(invalid-token) at line 9.

I would REALLY appreciate some direction...don't know what to do ...not being able to sequence, well, kinda sucks... : (

Which XML files do you want to see?  I really  don't think its the files themselves though...but if you think it will, which ones do you want to see, the RGB effects?

Install notepad++ and look at the rgbeffects file.  Fence1 is malformed and affecting Fence2.  You could edit Fence 1 using the notepad++ and that might fix your issue.  But I'm no expert.  I just notice that those two models do not look right in the file.  Always use notepad++ to look at your xml files as other programs may or may not screw up the formatting.

I do use the notepad++ per Seans recommendation some time ago....

I downloaded xlights onto another computer, took my files over to the new computer, and same issue happened. I had to go back two backup files to find an rgb_effects xml file that worked...so at 2 am last night...I was back in the game!

Thanks for looking at the effects file, I'll take a look at what you are saying when I get home tonite...if I'm not asleep!

vikester I could fix the file for you but that would be kinda like giving you fish instead of teaching you how to fish.  I want you and others to know how to diagnose and fix these kind of problems.  Anyone that has been on our forum or facebook should know that all models are stored in the xlights_rgbeffects.xml file.  I believe I already told you that in another thread.  The program told you "line 9" was a problem.  So here's a crazy thought....take a look at line 9.  That's where the file got corrupted somehow.  Just do like Jim says and get Notepad++ and either delete line 9 and then you'll need to recreate the Fence1 model or after deleting it you can copy the Fence2 line and rename it Fence1 and then fix the start channel.  Then open the program back up and go check that model.  If you have a backup of your xml files there is no reason to be scared to open them up and take a look.  I expect that when you venture into the DIY side of this hobby.
