Hidden Mega Tree Effect after LSP Import
« on: December 01, 2015, 12:13:30 AM »
Hi All

I imported an old LSP sequence (using 'Import Effects') and it all worked quite well.  Now I want to edit some of it and have noticed a 'Sparkle' effect that I used in LSP on my mega tree is present on playback but not visible in the sequencer.  Is there a way to view this effect or will I have to remove the model from the sequence and re-add it?

Thanks

Glenn

Further to this I have found some other 'Sparkle' effects on some other elements that aren't visible in the sequencer.  Even If I apply an 'On' for the period as soon as it gets to the sparkle part the sparkle takes over and ignores the 'On'.  Tried with an 'Off' also but the same result.  Is this possibly a bug?  Running 4.2.24

As a side note I could never go back to LSP after this using this software.  It stands to reason that my only issue so far involved my LSP sequence.  My new sequence using XLights was super easy.  Just makes so much sense...

There is a sparkle slider in the color selector panel, it hides if you don't have the panel scrolled up.  Scratched my head on why I was seeing this until i found it, might go peek at that in some effects you see the sparkle in.

Staying with LSP for this season, macros are much more powerful than most lsp users understand.

Thanks for the tip.  Unfortunately it wasn't there although you were right in that I couldn't see it.  Curse of using a 15" laptop.  :)

In the end I just removed the model, deleted it and added it again.  Pain in the bottom but it worked.

I just have to laugh every time I hear about how these other programs like HLS and LSP have so much "power".  HLS users kept touting "pixel planes" and LSP users praise "macros" like there is some kind of hidden magic going on.  New flash....we have pixel planes and macros also we just don't call them by those names...lol.

I installed hls, had a good laugh, then uninstalled. In my opinion the only software package that comes close to xlights is Vixen 3.

Satisfied customer here.

Yes you are gaining Gil, the effects in xlights are getting closer to what Ron was doing with LSP 3 years ago.  Still a number of macros xlights cannot do, whether someone uses them is another mater.

Perhaps you and Dan and other contributors will write some more effects in next year that xlights cannot do since it sandboxes effects from each other and the audio.

The spreadsheet drawing of an element and mapping its channels was very thoughtful from Sean.

I disagree with that assessment so there's no real use arguing about it.  I already showed a video of an effects sequence I created in a couple hours that you couldn't even come close to in LSP without several days to do it.  I mean you can dig a hole with a shovel but I'm over here with a backhoe.  Yes we can both end up with the same size hole but mine was so much faster and easier to dig.  That's how I see the comparison of the programs.  You have one user that created a nice sequence and you hang your hat on that for all your arguments.  There are a lot of people that can paint a much nicer picture than me but that doesn't mean it's because they have a better paintbrush.  I have a friend who's a magician but I will never match what he can do no mater what deck of cards you give me.  I would venture to say Ron could create a better sequence in xLights than he can in LSP if he gave it half a chance.

After trying unsuccessfully to use lsp with 30,000 channels and music for the last three years.. I switched to xlights and in a week after starting to use it, I had learned the program and finished my first song sequence.  In the couple weeks after the first song, I now have five, almost six.

I'm a moderately smart guy.  Three seasons with lsp = $400 spent and zero songs, three weeks with xlights = $0 spent (although a sizeable donation will be made) five and a half songs sequenced.

No contest.  I agree that there are a few users who have done some pretty amazing things with lsp, but there are a much higher count that couldn't do squat with it.

I would like him to give some examples of macros that he thinks are so over the top.

Pft...LSP...how's that fancy rewrite going...LOL.  If you you wanna get fancy you can always create effects in after effects, glediator or jinx and bring them into XL.  LSP has become a has been.  I use HLS and I think the best option for me is AC in HLS and import that layer into XL4 where I do my pixels.
