Opening 2014 v3 xseq into v4 with model and channels changes
« on: December 04, 2015, 07:30:39 AM »
I'm trying to open last years v3 xseq file of Let It Go in v4.  In the  v4 setup this year I changed some models around to make them larger, added other models, and also changed the start channels of just about every item in my display due to controller changes, etc, a

Should I be able to do this?  V4 crashes every time I try to open the v3 xml file.

At the moment, i've gone back to v3, changed my controller setup, start channels, and models to reflect the same as i'd done in v4; then exported to an .fseq file.  This lets me run the sequence on my 2015 setup, but i'd still like to get this converted over to v4 for further changes this year.

I'd post my complete setup, but thought I should ask if it should even be possible to do what i'm attempting!

Thanks for any insight.

It should work fine.   You might need to delete the fseq/xseq files first so they get completely recreated with the correct number of new channels, but loading the XML file should work fine.

If all else fails trying using the import process I documented in the sharing section.  I'm using it to import xml from other folks, but should work just fine for going from xl3 to xl4.

Well, i'm certainly having trouble doing this import.

Jim, I took a look at what you did, and i'll try and save that as a last resort.

What I did find out is that using the new xlights_rbgeffects.xml is causing the crashes. When I use the old rgb effects either from the 2014 v3 setup, or the 2015 v3 setup, it imports without crashing.  Using the new 2015 v4 rgbeffects.xlm, I get crashes after getting the popup about how it's been converted from v3.

I'll attached my setup here, and maybe someone can tell why it's crashing?  I'm not even getting a crash report to attach, but this happens on both my PC's used for doing sequencing.

This really isn't a big priority, but something i'm hoping to figure out eventually.

Thanks again for any insight.

Finally got my 2014 xml file to import.  I ended up deleting all unused models from my 2014 v3 setup including a bunch of unused whole house models.  I also ended up deleting a wreath model, which I believe may have been the issue.  Once done, I was able to import everything except the wreath, but I just used Jim's instructions on importing a model from v3, and it worked great!  Thanks Jim!

Now i've been going through all the sequences and changing things up as some effects have settings which change the behavior.  It'll be nice to have this in v4 now!

... and THANK YOU for adding 'paste' on the right click menu... editing is FLYING now!  :)
