Selected effect is not working on two timing marks
« on: December 13, 2015, 01:48:02 PM »
Hi Guys,

I need help. I been working on a sequence (better late than never??) and with my AC arches in two spots in the sequence its not working correctly. I have four seven segment arches and the two timing areas won't give me what I want. I created a video to show whats its doing. Any help how to fix it so I can continue on will be Greatly Appreciated.

Thanks

Looks like you have a group defined that includes arch1.  So when you put the effect on the group it is populating to the individual arch.  Normally with a group you would have all arches not just 1.

Hi Jim,

I was just showing the first arch, all of the arches are in the arch group.

I still don't know why I can't populate those two area with the effect that I want. I also checked my ALL group and that is also clear.

If you want each arch to be separate just put open up the group by dbl clicking on it and apply the effect to just 1 arch (or two) but not to the group.

When you expand to see the nodes it shows the data so you don't really need to drop Off effects to clear it out just delete the effect and then it will clear out when you render as long as you have the Render Mode set to Erase Mode.  As far as the issue you showed in the video we would probably need to analyze the sequence so we'd need your xlights_rgbeffects.xml and the sequence.xml files.

Thanks Gilrock,

I did the video because I knew I could never properly explain my problem. Let me know if I can send you anything else.

Jim I'm sorry, I have no idea what you are trying to fix. The Arch models and grouping are just fine and are doing what I need. Except for two spots(timing marks) in the sequence where wrong effects shows up and I can't change it.

Many Thanks

Rick R.

Can you tell me what operations you've done on the Arch models?  The extra stuff is coming from Strand level effects that I see in the XML file but there are no strands for that model so wondering how they got there.

Did you possibly start out with Arch1 set for more than one arch?  If so then Arch1 would have been at the Strand level so then if you set it back  just 1 arch maybe it left these straggler effects.

Sorry I really don't remember. I been trying a bunch of different things. I am pretty sure I did a Import Effects on all of the models. I don't believe that I changed the Arch1.

Would I be better off just starting over?

Thanks

No don't start over.  The problem is you somehow created Strand effects on a Model Group.  I think that's invalid but I need to check with Dan and we need to figure out what scenario caused it.  But to fix it just edit the XML file manually with Notepad++ and delete the <Strand> section from the "Arch" model.

Hi Gil,

Many thanks for you help.
Could doing a Import Effects from someone else's xml file cause that problem?
I remove the strand section and it's working just fine.

Maybe...I haven't done that type of import so not sure what you can run into.
