Candy Cane models with Barber Pole animation

Hi All,

I was thinking of adding some candy canes to my display for next year and was wondering how I could model them and how to get that Barber pole look with the alternating red/white on an angle?

Draw them with a custom model.  The barber pole look will depend on how you designed the canes.  I know it's impossible with mine so we would need to see a picture of your model layout when you draw it up.

No idea if this will work, but grab a image of the pole or candy cane you want. Then go to http://picascii.com to convert to ascii art, then maybe take it to excel and paste in there and then change the ascii to numbers to get the color and shapes you want for the strips.

The models I defined in the custom are basically 3 straight lines bent over at the top to make the cane.  They are based off of the ChromaCane 99 at

Im a little lost here. the link is not the same as you drew for a lay out. Your drawing shows one line as the link was 3.  Try this this do a custom model 3 wide by 12 high and do not curve it. Use the spiral effect of red and white. the effect will go up the cane and do the curve. If you draw the curve in you model then the spiral will go straight up the model and not bend. we are tricking it. I think then you draw a second model with the curve different name but same channel numbers and you can use it for other effects.

Thanks,  the one I drew was just so you could get the idea.  the real one has the three strings going up and curving over.  I will try doing them as three straight lines.

I gave it a try as I did 2 models. One curved and one straight. Used the same channels numbers for both. I put the spiral on the straight one and the curved candycane showed the effect you were looking for. I like the whole idea and I think I will build 8, 48 nodes candycanes for next year. Placing them around the base of big mega tree. I have seen so many great ideas this season it can be overwhelming on what to do.

so do you have both models on your layout at the same time?  Do you make one real small to hide it?

Yes I have both on my model  The curved ones are placed it the correct spots and the straight ones off to the side and small  as those are just there to create certain effects on the curved ones, the real ones in my show. here again we are just faking then out.

You can uncheck the "Part of my display" box in the model definition to hide it but it will still be available as a model you can drop effects on.  You just won't see it in the previews.

So are U going to have a matrix board that is vertical or are you going to physically built a tuber type structure?
