Many thanks for posting this. It provides much information to one new to this hobby and gives me many acronyms to research and thus understand.  :)

The labor force at my house:  figure-outer--me.   sequencing--me.    build stuff--me.  setup stuff--me.
I know this is really basic, but I think one important point for someone new to this is to make sure you develop a bill of materials of some type (I like using a spreadsheet) and to have a good idea how many $$ you will be spending!   Especially with RGBs it is easy to invest a LOT of money...   My two cents..

Replying so I can find the link in the future for the ridge clips.  I'm not sure if others have seen this is the past.  This is the first time I've seen those.  Where was this 2 years ago when I stuffed all my C7s into split PVC piping :)

Once and a while I get help from the 16yr old boy handing up tools to me on the roof. Otherwise I'm like Dan and it's all my hobby.

One word of caution if you track your spend - password protect the file so the other half can't see how much you are spending - otherwise she will be pulling into the driveway with a new minivan.

The biggest challenge is getting models built, they take longer than you realize. My show this last year (in my mind) would have had Star Bursts in it, a topper for the tree and on and on. I got the mega tree, matrix, candy cane topped globes and some Dalek mini trees. I hope that between now and Thanksgiving I can get my roof the way I want it and possibly a Star Burst. It just takes time soldering things together.

Just Thought I would add information similar to Lora

2015 Show:

Main Responsibilities:
Jeremy (Grandson) - Ladder climber, roof climber (Too Old for this plus fear of heights)
Kent - Building, layout, soldering/splicing, Sequencer, fpp figure out-er-er, and anything else

Sequencer:  XLights
Show Computer:  FPP (Raspberry Pi B+ with WiFi for Internet Time)
Network:  Ethernet hub from Raspberry
Channels: 14K - 97920 Capability from the Falcon controllers
Lights: 4640

Controllers/Hubs:
Falcon F16V2 (2) - Mega Tree and Matrix

Elements:
Mega Tree (24 strings, 80 count on 2" Centers with 6" Spacing at bottom, 180 degree, WS2811, bullet nodes) - Used Strips from both Boscoyo and Holiday Coro - Suggest Boscoyo Strips
Matrix (42 x 50 - Used Matrix from Holiday Coro, can be rolled up) WS2811 Bullet Pixels
5 Globes from Holiday Coro mounted on Candy Cane Striped Poles
10 Dalek Trees and Stars from Boscoyo

2016 Plans:
Add third Falcon F16V2 for West yard area
Garage Door Nativity Banner lit by large lights from each side
Topper Star from Christmas Light Show - Mega Tree Controller
Full Roof Outline using 1/2" conduit and Boscoyo Chroma Strips - Matrix Controller
8 Coro Candy Canes from Holiday Coro - Mega Tree Controller
3 Starbursts for the West yard area (hopefully will get them made as they are very labor intensive) - Third Falcon F16V2 Controller for this area
Still thinking...
