Twinkle in test tab.
« on: January 10, 2016, 04:39:31 PM »
Is it me or does this not work anymore?  All the other functions work but twinkle.  If it does; what sliders do I need to set?

Thanks

The twinkle works in the second tab, but not the first since the first tab ends up using all white.

Hmm.  I must be choosing something wrong.  It doesn't work on either tab for me.

Why would anyone need to do a twinkle for testing?  I think it should just be removed.  Just create a sequence and drop down a twinkle effect if that's what you want to se..

I feel the entire test tab should be removed. I, like Gil, just use the sequencer to test.

The test tab is great in the workshop.  I use it after soldering strings together to make sure I didn't screw something up in in the assembly.  I never (seldom) use it for the display once it is up as I use the a sequence or the FPP display testing. I also use it for counting lights on a string.  I have created and saved a setup in test that lights up only every 10th bulb.  Much easier to count the lit lights and whatever is left over to determine how many nodes are on a string that has been cut off last year.  Also use it to make it faster to cut new strings off.  I have a lot of props with 60 nodes.  Put a connector on the input end, load a 60 count setup, turn it on, and you know where to cut that new 100 count string apart.  Also good for testing the configuration of hardware to ensure you have the channel assignment correct before you take it out to the yard. You can you do all this with a sequence. but why bother to create, save and clutter up my folder with unique one time use sequences.

Just some of the many ways I find the test tab useful.  YMMV

I disagree with the removal - sorry.  I still build items where I don't know how many pixels of a strip I just used and so while I know my starting channel, I don't know my ending.  This is the only thing I use test tab for but it is invaluable in finding the end of a model (number of pixels).  In the below video, I had no clue how many pixels of the strip were in the north pole column or globe - I just cut to length and put it together.  Using xlights test tab I was able to figure out I used 58 pixels in the column and 8 in the globe.  You can't figure out your models in the sequencer.

I use it all the time when building new props and testing equipment.  What I'm doing now.  I'm ok if the twinkle does not work but please don't remove anything that works.

You don't have to be sorry. Opinions should be expressed. I don't use the test tab, but obviously others do.

I use the test tab all the time. I only use the Background COlor and RGB cycle for testing. I use the setting the background color on RGB to determine the RGB order.

Don't go postal I meant Twinkle could be removed.  I don't see how doing anything that randomly flashes lights could be of any use during testing.  For a test you want precise actions.

I think we both define going postal a little differently. :-\

I would agree, it just made me wonder why it didn't work.  But it does help with approval from the boss.  When she says "that's pretty" it means more toys in the future.

Hmm.  What version are you using?
