Moving Yoke effects lights or other DMX stage lights control
« on: January 12, 2016, 11:03:43 AM »
I have not looked through all the posts yet but is there a way to program DMX stage lights? How do we get the properties set up? I have seen videos that people have incorporated moving spot lights to their holiday light show probably done with another sequencer then xlights. Or even to trigger something like a fogger, snow or bubble machine through DMX.

I was looking at http://www.chauvetlighting.com/intimidator-spot-led-350.html as an example light.

Have you run xLights at all?  I'm not sure where to begin because I don't know if you know what a model is in our program.  If all you want to do is run stage lights there are probably better programs.  I did create a DMX effect last year that will send out data to 15 channels (will be expanding to 16 due to requests).  You can have all the values smoothly ramp from a start to an end value with the duration determined by how far you drag out the effect on the timeline.  Our program is setup to mainly do preprogrammed actions.  It is possible to setup sections to do things interactively if you know what your doing though.

Thanks for the reply. I have been dabbling with xlights but I have really only seen pixel stuff being done by others. I am not looking at this as a stage lighting program. I am looking for the flexibility of using just about anything that can talk some sort of dmx or other protocol that xlights can do. Yes I am a newbie to the whole holiday lights to music thing and my first house that had lights to music I saw was with smart pixels and that was it. Now I have found xlights and it is very intuitive to me of how multitrack sequencers work. I did a lot of audio multi track so I am fascinated with being able to do the same with lights. I am learning everything I can about it. I had not seen any applications in xlights that I know of  that used moving yoke lights so I asked the question.

Just as proof, here's Gil's own video of him controlling a moving head dmx light https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W4Sw2Kr36kk

Ok well the main key for using the DMX effect in xLights is the model you create needs to be defined as "RGB nodes" because I write the data in the red, green, and blue components.  Then as long as the start channel match up with the start of the device in the DMX universe it will control it using the channels in the DMX effect.
