Mac OSX saving time out?
« on: January 22, 2016, 04:48:46 PM »
I'm not sure why but ever since I updated on the latest OSX version, my saves are taking a very long time. I have tried a test on a new sequence with one and several effects and it saved quickly. This appears to be an issue with this one sequence. There was no importing of data, it was all made in XL. I've attached a zip file with the files needed for someone to take a look at. Not sure why this is happening and hopefully someone can find a solution for it.

Thanks guys

PS. when I hit save, it will save and continue to "save" for hours and hours. Judging by the "saving" in the lower left corner of the screen. If I close xlights after a few hours of it "saving" it will ask me if I want to save any changes and I hit yes. So at least it is allowing me to save my changes and such. I just can't save more than once without closing xlights.

I can verify that in 4.2.25 the saves are really fast with your file.  Upon moving up one version to 4.3.0, not so much.  Dan will have to dig into this but this should give a starting point between the two versions to see what changed that would cause the issue.

Something very similar was posted yesterday to the Facebook group, also under Mac OS X.

Renders and saves in 6 seconds on my Windows machine but why are there so many models in your sequence that are missing from your layout?

That was me I bet Kevin,
This is curtis march.

Gil, not sure. I changed one name on a group.  Otherwise I don't know lol.  Still figuring things out.
What was missing other than mini trees.

Well it sounds like Dan found a fix so that's good.  Regarding the missing models I got 10 or 11 messages when I tried to open your sequence.  If you don't get those messages then you didn't give me the same files that you use.  So I don't need to list what's missing because the program will tell you.

Ok let me see, what's the file structure. I have a feeling I put the non sequence files in random places cuz I didn't know where they belonged lol. So yes you might have bad ones but my xlights is using the correct ones lol. Bet that's what happened. Guess I'll delete those bad boys since they're not doing anything.

Glad the fix was painless. I'll download it tonight or tomorrow.

When you open up xLights right there on the Setup tab is the path to where you told the program you wanted your Show directory.  That's where the files are that it's using.

awesome Gil, thanks.. That helps me clear things up. when I was installing things from my virtual windows machine, I wasn't fully sure where those files needed to go. I was placing them in any folder on my mac so I wouldn't lose anything.
