Can I stop a text effect after one cycle?
« on: February 22, 2016, 08:11:08 PM »
I have dug around the forum a bit and read the manual and did not find this.   I see that there is a way to stop a text effect in the center of its travel.   What I was wondering---is there a command that stops the text effect after it has made one cycle?   For this example, I am vertically scrolling "Emmanuel" and I only want it to show up once in a rather long phrase (about 6 seconds duration).   I played around with the speed until I got what I wanted.   Is that the "right" way to do this?    THANKS!!!

Not sure if this is the right way but here's what I do.  To scroll text to the middle and then stop it, I create my first effect and and adjust the effect duration so that it ends right in the middle of my matrix. Then I follow it with the same effect with motion set to none. It can take some of fiddling to get it right but it works.

To play a sequence only once, I adjust the scroll speed until it seems about right and then simply play around with the effect duration so that it ends after one cycle. That usually only takes a few seconds.

Not the "right" way to do it in my opinion.  Use the "Vector" option and define your vector motion.  It will complete that motion in the duration of the effect.

Paul---that's basically what I did last night--played around with the effect speed & the duration of the cells.

Gil--not getting the vector function to do anything...  Probably doing something wrong.   Played around with some different settings and didn't get the effect to even show up!!  I'll keep playing around with it.

THANKS!!!

Well I hope its obvious but you do need to type in some text for the effect to show up. ;)

If you select vector then you have the Start Position and End Position tabs at the bottom to adjust the motion.  0,0 is the middle position.  It default to offsetting with the values being percentages of the model size but if you check the box it becomes number of pixels.  Its pretty easy.

Oh yeah, I did that sequence before the vector option was available... Vector's way simpler.

Thanks Gil.    I'll play around with the x/y coordinates so I can get the hang of the vector function.    Yes, I have text input--it is working with "normal" speed/duration settings but not vector--now that you have stated how the x/y positions the effect, I am thinking it is "off the model"....   But good question to make sure I had indeed input some text first!!

The default positions should have been 0,0 which would have centered the text.  If it's not then you must have played with the sliders.
