How to report bugs to the developers
« on: April 05, 2016, 11:41:06 AM »
What to provide on crashes:

1) ALWAYS provide detailed description of what you were doing. If it is not repeatable, we probably cant do anything. If you can cause the crash over and over, describe your steps.
2) Tell us the version of xlights you are running.
3) Provide crash files. If you get the crash dump (Example: xLights_dbgrpt-23396-20151119T092711.zip) that has the files we need. If you get a crash with the dump then please provide
xlights_rgbeffects.xml
{YOUR_SEQUENCE}.xml , if you have one
DO NOT give us any fseq files, those are of no use to us and they are huge.
4) EXTRA BONUS: Please do a screen capture (screen-cast-o-matic  or jing, both are free) with 30-60 seconds of the steps you do to cause the crash.

If you dont get a crash file then please use the tools menu "Package Log Files" option to create a package of files to send to us. This will include everything we should need except a screenshot or video of the problem. These can also be useful.

This would be better in its own thread. Hijacking a general thread means it will get lost.

What email address do we send the crash report/zip files too?

If the problem is reproducible then you can upload the crash report and a detailed description of how to produce it (even better video with commentary) to github. Link is in help menu and on xlights.org.

Please make sure the crash report is with the latest version. We don’t tend to look at older reports as things tend to get fixed.

Xlights has been crashing several times lately.  I seem to get the error when I try to add my new P10.  I have a 3 x 3 panel running from a Beagle Bone Black.  I've been working with the Greatest Show file that I downloaded from the Xlights Around The World project.  I seem to get the error when I try to play the sequence.  I get a message that "there seems to be another process running the program"  or words to that effect.  After I get the error I get another message indicating that a crash report has been generated.  I have attached the zip file that was generated.
