Noob help
« on: April 24, 2016, 07:02:41 PM »
I want to move my files from one computer to another. What do I need to make this happen so I don't lose all the work I did on my previous model? Are there any video tutorials about how to do this?

Thanks!

There are lots of posts on this from keeping your files in the cloud, ala dropbox, google drive or whatever.  Or you can keep them on a shared network space inhouse or i keep a complete copy of my xlights data folder on a flash drive and copy it to several computers that i use.  They all work fine.  Works best if you keep everything in one folder, ie, media and sequence.  In my xlights data folder I have subfolders for Christmas and Halloween and for special testing or for looking at a shared sequence that I downloaded.  Even have multiple years data, each in a separate sub folder.  then to use any particular data just change your setup to point to the folder you want.  Easy Peasy.  One word of warning if you use any pictures/video the path will change so just be prepared for that.

Thanks. Let me ask a clarifying question. Specifically what files need to be in the show directory so all the work I've done magically shows up? Once I know specifically which files are required, then I can work on different computers and not lose any work.

You need all files that end in .XML plus any audio or images you use in your sequences.  I'm assuming you don't do data layer imports.
