Cannot Drag Effect onto prop
« on: April 27, 2016, 05:04:45 PM »
This story is  a bit long but it may help to understand how something got corrupted.

I have Xlights on two computers, on computer B I can create a sequence and add models and drag effects onto the models and all is ok and then test the sequence and it controls the lights.

On computer A I was adding LOR controllers earlier this week to test that part of the network. At some point when testing the pixels on an E682 they started pulsating, after replacing controllers and power supplies and testing with computer B I determined it had to be something on Computer A. I uninstalled and reinstalled ver 16, 20 and 22 no change. Uninstalled Xlights, deleted all folders and cleaned the registry of any xlights reference and then reinstalled 2016.22. Now with the test  tab the pixels work as they should,  I can configure the network, add models, create a sequence, But I cannot drag an effect onto the model!

Anyone have some ideas on what I could try.

Thanks in advance
Doug C.

Adding timing marks first makes it easier to add effects. Just highlight a timing mark and either drag an effect there or use one of the keyboard shortcuts.  It will work!

Do not ask to know all the answers, but ask to understand the question.

Thank You,
Adding timing marks did indeed resolve the problem.

So maybe the developers would know why when you create a new sequence are no timing marks added?

Where would the devs put the timing marks on a blank sequence? This is just one of those things you need to understand with the software. The easiest way is once you add a song add a timing track with one of the audacity plug-ins. This takes 10 seconds.

We give you a lot of options.  You can drop effects without any timing marks.  Just unselect the little circle beside the timing track.  Then you will drop a 1 second effect and then you can drag the edge to make it as big as you like.  I work like that a lot.   When you have a timing track active we assume you want to drop between marks.  Maybe I should just let it default to the other method if there are zero marks in a timing track.

Gil and James,

Thank you for responses.
"You can drop effects without any timing marks.  Just unselect the little circle beside the timing track." from Gil was the solution, somehow I had selected that little circle and it was what created my problem. Unselecting this allow me to drag effect and adjust its length.

Thank You to all the developers of this product, it is powerful and takes time to learn everything.
