Channel start causes crash
« on: April 29, 2016, 03:40:36 PM »
I'm trying to model my house, and all was going well until I started trying to group things and clean them up beyond "playing around".

Now, whenever I try and fix the channel start on a number of items, it crashes on me.

For example, I have currently a fairly simple model I'm trying to build.  It's a bunch of strips around the windows and eves, and then a few trees in the front.  I've got 50% of the outline done - and figured out where I want the start/stop to be.  However, I haven't decided on if I'm going to use 30, 45 or 60 LED strips, so the number of nodes might change.  I'm starting with 60 LED/m as a base case and building from there.  So each strip is calculated based on length, and one "goes into" the next.

I believe everything was working fine until I saved and closed the app, then re-opened it.

Now when I open the app, it complains that a number of items can't be calculated for their channel start.  So I tried to change the start channel on the first element it was complaining about, and it crashes the app (pinwheel of death).   I tried making the start channel the end of another string, and it crashes the app.

I'm about to delete all of the 'bad elements' and just re-do them, but I figured I'd open a discussion on it first.

I'm on a Mac, running Beta 2016.22, April 24.

It doesn't show the initial pop-up error when you launch Xlights, and it also doesn't show the pinwheel of death when you change the channel #.

I had the same issue.  Think it's something in the beta software.  I just went into the xml file and used notepad++ to manually edit my start channels for each model.  I'm sure as the development team gets closer to a release version they will get this fixed.

Probably happened when a model was deleted and caused a start channel link to be broken or circular.
