Opengl issue with amd graphics?
« on: July 04, 2016, 12:08:23 PM »
Ok I have an issue, this has been happening across all the different versions. I am currently using .39 and its still happening. I posted on facebook about it but really should ask here.

Here is what I am seeing.

Open xlights, open a sequence. Everything loads just fine, then after a few seconds the following windows enter what i call zoom mode. Any preview windows (model, house) the actual sequence box (where the effects are) the sound wave view. Resizing the windows fixes them for a second or two, the best way i have found to get everything straightened out is to immediatly when the sequence loads select an effect, then start resizing stuff until it stops entering zoom mode, i have tried all 4 options on opengl (opengl 1, 2,3 and auto)

Here is a video from a month or so ago that shows what is going on.

https://vimeo.com/168123389

here is a blow by blow on what is happening in the video...
0:00 - 0:29 opening xlights and opening a sequence
0:30 - 0:47 closing model preview (cut down on the number of resizing i need to do) moving the house preview out so it can be seen, several attempts at moving it and putting it in where it goes back as part of the xlights panel.
0:48- 0:55 playing the sequence and its normal
0:56 BAM... house preview zooms in, wave form view zooms in (you can just see the bottom of the wave form) and the sequence window zoomed in.
0:56-1:07 turning off the sequence and letting you see what it looks like.
1:08-1:30 start resizing things as i resize you can see some or all 3 of the windows go back to "normal" then zoom in immediatly
1:31 -  1:47    im actually moving the mouse (cursor isnt showing on the recording software) left and right along the row that is cir 9 bot, as i click to select the space you can see that the blue select is on the dark row aligining to between cir 6 bot and cir 6 top. to show how zoomed in the sequencing area is.
1:48 -  2:11   once again moving stuff resizing things go in and out till they suddenly stay at 2:06 and stop zooming in
2:12- end replay the sequence and it stays at "normal" and will remain so until i close xlights and open it again at some point in the future.

This would be a great excuse to say you need a new computer.  I'm not sure how to fix that.  It could just be something with that particular video card/driver.  Have you posted your xlight_l4cpp.log file before?  That's what Dan usually looks at to see what might be going on with OpenGL.

I was tempted a time or two to go amd. I stuck with Intel and Nvidia. Just for xlights alone, I'm sure glad I did. If there was ever a debate on which is better, amd or Nvidia, Nvidia wins hands down when related to xlights.
