Schedule and Playlist
« on: July 05, 2016, 06:09:52 AM »
Does anyone but me want to use the Schedule function in xLights?

[mybackground]
New to this game, first show this year, have already progressed from LOR to xLights .
I know most people are using Pi and Falcon to run shows, but I have a few mini PCs spare so want to use them. I've enough new lights hardware and software to get my head around, without having to muck around with Pi this year
[\mybackground]

There doesn't seem to be much info on the Schedule function.

in the xml code what do the 4---- represent and in particular what is R (I'm guessing Run? or has Run?)
been trying to plan my Halloween show, and have following in the code:

<calevent schedcode="07012030-2200 R---2016 Halloween"/>
<calevent schedcode="10292000-2230 ----2016 Halloween"/>

I can interpret most of it = date, start time, end time, playlist.

Strange thing is there's no schedule for July 01 in the Schedule list tab (I deleted it after I worked out how to enter dates properly).

I know I probably don't have to worry about this but I'm kind of curious

I'm sure there are 3 or 4 others using it.  I hear it works so just use it.  I'm not digging in that code just to answer curiosity questions.

There is nothing to the pi. They are cheap to buy and easy to use. You will be missing out. I don't think any development is going in to the xlights scheduler.

Yeah I don't mean to sound harsh.  I'll rephrase.  When users stop posting problem with their files for us to troubleshoot for 3 days straight then I'd be glad to take the time. :)

Xlights scheduler did everything I needed last year. Never looked at the xml though.

My guess is that because xlights started as an advanced scheduler, the blanks in the calendar event entry are for other options not being used. The source mostly refers to start, end, playlist with some references to repeat, first, last and x (which I didn't see while scanning the code). Would the R refer to repeat? Would that make sense in your schedule?

There are also references to "delay" and length of sequence as well. Since the playlist and schedule use the same set of code, the parameters for one are mingled with the other. But I would venture a guess the scheduler had other parameters no longer used once they moved in to the playlist.

Thanks Mike you might be right about the r for repeat, I was  playing with some of the options.

Bottom line, as long as the scheduler works thats all I need to care about .
