I dug around a bit and didn't find this topic here or at FalconChristmas forum.   I am planning to run all my controllers in unicast this year and I was wondering if I need to setup the controllers' unicast IP addresses in both xlights and the Raspberry pi or just in the Raspberry pi?   Thanks!

It doesn't matter what they are in xLights unless you run the lights from xLights.  When running in FPP all that matters is whether the channel numbers in the FSEQ match up.

Dan,

What you could do , is set them up as multicast in xLights - so that you can test directly from xlights should you wish.

Then set them up as Unicast in FPP.

As Gil said - as long as the channels match ...

BTW - the 'universes' file that FPP uses (for E131) is automatically created in xLights. You could use it to copy over to the FPP directory .. I have yet to document this in the manual cause I have to find out the FPP directory structure and try for myself to screen print etc.

Two things:

1.  A most welcome addition, especially as the channel counts rise.  Do it in one place and just copy to the FPP.  Wow.

2.  If using unicast, it would appear that if one was to do this, one would have to make sure that the xLights file did match what would be in the FPP.  Correct?

Disclaimer - I have not viewed the file and its format.

Yes that is correct - it would need to match.
Also - on the FPP - there are four network related files - but this one (E131 definition) is the most commonly used. The others are for when defining pixels connected to the Pins (and off hand I cant remember the other two).

Also - Keith had asked people to send him their xLights setup and Universe files so that he could check them against what was generated - but I don't think there was much user response.
