Map Channels issue
« on: July 19, 2016, 04:23:24 PM »
I was putting my new knowledge of what I learned at the Christmas Expo to use in creating my map channels.  Yesterday, I created all the mappings which worked fine.  But I ended up with a couple models that for some reason had their complete track line colored in and it was showing up in the preview before it ever was supposed to show up.  The actual effect markers were showing the effect itself was at the correct timing point.  I didn't bother saving that import since I was going to look at it again today to see if I could first figure out the issue myself.

But I just now tried to go back through and do an import again of the same LMS file but the Map Channels screen now isn't showing that it imported anything.  (See attached image).  I can't figure out if I'm doing something wrong or what's going on.  I tried a couple different LMS files and they are all doing the same thing. I tried to load my saved mapping file but it reports every item isn't mapped (that's when I found that the LMS file didn't appear to load anything).

I had no problems with this yesterday.  If you need me to send you any other files let me know.
Running Ver. 2016.40.

You need to add models to your sequence before you do the import.

Actually I think I just resolved my issue.  I don't know if this is a bug or as designed but it really gave me some confusion.

What I found out is if you follow these steps you get this issue:
  • Create new sequence.
  • Select Musical Sequence
  • Select Audio File
  • Select 20fps
  • Click the Skip >> button
  • Click the Done >> button
  • Select menu Import / Import Effects
  • Select your lms file
You will then see that the model drop down list is empty.
I found that in the new sequence, you have to select your View first to display the models BEFORE you do the import.

I know it was mentioned in the training that you have to 'create' the modes first but didn't know they physically had to be selected in the View first also.

So, my issue is resolved (at least this one) and maybe this might help anyone else just starting with this also.

Thanks Keith, just found that out also.

Yes I was just mentioning to the other developers when I got home that maybe we should automatically add all models to a sequence or maybe I could add a checkbox to the new sequence wizard and let the default be to add all models but you could turn it off if you wanted.

Or a drop down of views and all the models in that view are added by default.... Whenever I create a new sequence, the first thing I do is select my "All" view to get all the models in there.

I like all those options.  I know it's a learning curve but I'm always open for simplicity.

Well at first I thought I was being efficient and saving space because it allowed you to create a sequence that only contains a subset of your models.  But I've noticed myself and everyone else typically wants all the models when they create a sequence and it has caused confusion to new users.  I kinda like Dan's idea.

Well, I wouldn't say I want ALL models in a new sequence.  I have a bunch of models that are used for the preview that I don't ever sequence against.   I don't want those added to new sequences by default.   They are there for the preview to look right.  That's kind of why I like the View drop down.  The view I have all the things I DO want to work with is the one I'd select.

Also, I'd prefer to NO have the empty timing track selected by default, but that might just be me.

Yeah I said I liked your idea last post because then you can select the View that contains all the models you want.  Maybe have an All Models at the top of that list for new users that might not have any views yet.

And yes I find myself unchecking that timing track all the time because it prevents you from dropping effects.  I had considered whether I should allow the same 1 second duration drop in any area outside of a timing effect so users would never have that situation where it looks like it drops to nothing.
