strands/nodes HELP!
« on: July 23, 2016, 03:57:49 AM »
Hi have two tree toppers and a seizure star that i would like to be able to "segment"  the nodes into groups.
Ie treetoppers  have 2 stars, 10 rays and 4pix per ray at the end  "- - - - ::" like this.
How do i go about asssigning the nodes to these elements with elements, since if you have 1 string,
that is all that appears when you goto strand/node names. And you cant add extra strand names to the lsiting
Hope this makes sense
cheers Boof63

Best I can offer is use the files in this attachment to learn how I did this short sequence on this snowflake.

Gil, curious what snowflake you are using, homegrown, store bought, etc.

Thanks,
James

That was for Matt Johnson's snowflake.  He's switching from Vixen to xLights so I helped model that snowflake and create that demo to show how he could create sub-groups for his model.  The better solution will be for us to create a way to define these sub models possibly as multi-nested model elements but for now what I show in that sequence is one way to get the job done now.  It's just more painful to draw all the alternate proxy models.

Thanks Gil. I liked it. It's similar to the Boscoyo one, just more pixels.

If you look at the wiring pattern it's easier to wire cause you can make it with one long continuous strand.

When you work out how to add "segments" please also consider being able to use matrices as well, takes time to implement, but gives greater creativity if you can breaka matrix into groups either vertical or horizontal or even both for the same matrix.

PS to be able to copy and paste from node layouts to a new strand/node segemnt would speed up this method immensly,  :D

I think I've wired up one of each of his stars - I've been able to do all of them with a single strand.  I'm not seeing how to attach a file here, so see this link:  http://www.ludban.com/public/Star%20Model.xlsx

If I'm understanding you correctly, that is already there. There is a sub buffer that allows you to redefine the model size on a per effect basis. Also, you can rotate on a per effect basis in the render options.

hi this is my star.
Inner star 10 pix modules
Outer star 20 pix modules
Arms     10  x 4 pix modules
Sparkles 10 x 8 pix nodes
With this model in HLS ,i can control the all the segemenst- stars, arms, sparkles
So apologies for my thickheadness , but i don't understand the steps to achieve the same
results. any help greatly appreciated
Order is, arm 1 - 10,   inner star, outer star, arm 1  sparklesx 4, arm 2 sparkles 4 etc....arm 10 sparkles 4, but each element is controllable in HLS, can i do this in XL4??
Cheers and thanks

I already gave you files to show how to do it.  You gotta create additional models that map to the same channels.  I call them proxy models.

In order to see attachements you need to be logged in, I can see a Zip file link below the link for the animation. And I can download it too.

In reply #1 to this thread Gil provided a file snowflakedemo.zip  it is just under the link. If you are using tapatalk or some other mobile device perhaps you missed it...

Yeah the zip file is attached to the same post as the animation.  To be honest its not the best solution but it is an option that works with the currently available functionality.  I'll be trying to come up with a better way to define sub-models and nested models but until I dive into it I'm not sure what will be achievable without ripping apart our design.
