speed of effects
« on: July 28, 2016, 05:38:14 AM »
What is best way to slow down effects,
Cycles in single or swag in curtain =  change the speed,
doing so below 1.0 = less of the actual chase chasing, ie 0.5
results in ahlf of the arch on and half chasing.
but i would like to control the actual chase speed, and these effects
dont allow you to slow down the chase to a speed i like
(again i could be missing something and most likely)
Help please most appreciated

Best way to slow down an effect?  Make it bigger.  Curtain is designed to make a closed to open or vice versa transition across the time duration of the effect.  Drag the right edge of the effect over to give it a longer duration then it will take longer to open/close.

With xLights 3, most of the effects had a speed slider. It was a pain to adjust the slider so that the effect would cycle exactly to the timing mark.  Think of garlands filling a tree exactly to the 4 beats. You had to adjust the speed, play the song, adjust again, and again until it was 'close enough'

With xLights4, most effects cycle once or more to the width (timespan) of the timing mark.  When Gil said make the effect bigger, he means make the effect stretch a longer amount of time.  You can use layers to start another effect on the same model before the first effect completes a cycle of whatever it is cycling (bars, curtain, garlands, etc.)

Are you asking to have the curtain open and then stay open? For that to happen What I do is break up the time period in to two. Have the curtain open up with a speed setting of one. then in the second section just turn on the first and last strand the same color as the curtain. now it appears when running the curtain opens and then stays open. Remember it may take a few effects to create one.

Or just check persistent.

If you want the curtain to open and stay open you can do that now with just one effect.  You need to learn how to use the value curves.  You can create a curve where it opens really quick and then stays open for 10 minutes if you wanted.
