Keyboard Shortcuts issue
« on: August 12, 2016, 04:38:27 PM »
xLights Version: 2016_45

Issue: In previous versions of xLights, I was able to press the D key to get a fade down effect, then press the U key to get the fade up effect. But in the current version, pressing the D key will work but then pressing the U key will just give a black "on" effect, and vice-versa. It seems the keyboard shortcut function is just not resetting the effect settings, rather, it is saving the start and end values. Thus making the the fade down and fade up effect combine to make just a black "on" effect.

I did notice that there is a "xlights_keybindings.xml" file, could it be that I just have to get a new one or modify this?

Thanks, Gabe.

Are you trying to place the effect at the node level?  There seems to be a rendering issue on nodes right now.

Nope, I'm just putting the effect right on the model itself.

Yeah you're right by default we don't try to set all the other panel settings.  I think you are talking about fades in the layer blending.  If you leave them set non-zero then yes your shortcuts will inherit those values.  So type in some zeros.  The same thing happens to dropping normal effects.  By the way you can edit the keyboard shortcuts file and make them do whatever you like.

Well, after messing around for a while, I found a solution. I just removed the lines in the keyboard shortcuts xml file that relate to the "On" effect. Everything works as intended now.

Well that doesn't make sense at all.  You complained that the shortcut keys aren't working right and the solution is to delete the shortcuts from the keybindings file.  Well now they don't work at all so I don't see how that fixes anything.  But as long as your happy fine with me.

I'll stop wasting your time. It seems like the problem was that the keyboard shortcuts xml was overriding the built in keyboard shortcuts. xLights seems to have shortcuts built into it, even if I completely removed the file, some keybinds still worked.

There are no built-in keyboard shortcuts that drop effects.

If you completely delete the xml file, xLights re-creates it with the defaults.
