Sub Models and States
« on: August 17, 2016, 07:41:32 PM »
A few things I notice with the new Sub Models the first I ran across was once created one can not edit the names of the sub model other than delete and redo. the other was the ability to create States for the sub models. See I created a Bruno the moose head out of back lit Coro.  I was hoping to create a sub model of the eyes and then assign states to have then open, close, look right left, blink, and wink.  Unless I'm missing something.

At the moment the state effect only works of states. Still contemplating if/how I change it to recognise sub models.

The sub models gives me a lot more options when sequencing my spinner. Just was hoping for an easier way of working my Bruno Model. There are lot of moving parts   Eyes, Mouth, antlers and ears, and if I get fancy his cap. hey still some time before X-mas... Ho Ho Ho

States can do a lot of that. Sub models lets you do even more things.

In my mind it doesn't make sense to define states for sub-models.  A state is pretty much the same as defining a sub-model.  It's creating a range of nodes you can do special things with.  So use states or use sub-models or both but no reason to try to further sub-divide a sub-model with a state.

I agree gil. It's more about state effect using the sub models.

Yup, why would I define the same subset of channels twice, once for sub models to use various effects and then again as a state to use state effect.  Totally doable just thinking like I others I think that once and done would be cool.

I love the sub models!  Is there any thought about allowing sub models to be put in groups?  I have 4 HolidayCoro "RIP" tombstones and I'd like to be able to group the "RIP" text sub model on each tombstone together.

Ok I see what you mean.  The state effect not the state definitions.

Hmmm let try to explain this. I have a moose head . its all green. Now to do an eye you need to add white around a black dot.  But the black dot needs to move right left and center.   With layering I can start with a green face. Add a black model over the top then states to add white to look around.  This is why I was hoping sub models could do states.  States only add one color unless you create multi states to create the one effect.  My other way was make a eye model and create pictures for each position.  The mouth is the same.  Closed green open white lips and black inside.  Am I looking at this wrong.

Uncheck "Force Custom Colors" in State setup (on layout screen)....then you can use all the colors you want.

I'm sorry I said I used the Pictures effect to make the eyes I did not. I used the Effects Persets and set up a bunch for different looks.

What Im looking for is one state with 2 set of nodes different colors. Tonight I'll do some testing on my best way setting him up. Yep just as hard to build as to sequence.
