On/Off not working
« on: August 25, 2016, 05:07:11 PM »
I have been racking my brain and trying everything I can to see what I am doing wrong and cannot come up with anything. Sometimes when I drop a simple on/off on something it will not show up. I have some that work and others refuse. Rendering does not fix the problem. Saving and restarting doesn't fix it either so I am assuming it is something that I am doing wrong in a setting/property somewhere.
This is nothing fancy, just a simple on/off (however it has done this with a color wash as well). In playing with the render style I can get the lights to do what I want if I switch from a default render to a single line render. I copied and pasted an earlier on/off effect right next to the non-working one and it works fine. I have checked every single property and they are identical between the two but one just flat out refuses to work. It will not show up in the model window nor the whole house window.
I have a workaround by either copying a working one and using that of switching it to single line so I can still get it to work, I just am posting this in hopes of clarifying what the hell I am doing wrong because I am at a complete loss.
If anyone could look at it I would be thankful. The non-working on/off starts at 1:11 and the working one is directly after that.

When you have a model and a model group, think of it as one of those is going to override the other.

The render order is top to bottom in the sequence amongst the models.

Model 1 - On Red
Model 2 - On Red
Model 3 - On Red
Whole house - Off

What will show?   All models will be off.

Are you talking about the effects on the model "whole house"? I see one that starts at 1:15 and one that starts at 2:35. Both work for me.

It's usually a lot easier for people to help if you can take a short video of what you are seeing.

To add, this is based from the master view.

Thank you gents. I am not sure what fixed it but I tried deleting the non-working one and dropping another in its place and now it works. I went through and made sure nothing was overriding it so not a thing changed from it not working to now that it is working. To understand it I have even tried to duplicate it but now it works just fine. I have got to be doing something wrong in those instances but I'll be damned if I know what that is.

Anyways, thank you. The forums help is always greatly appreciated.

Well something changed.  Its so easy to do something that makes an effect not show up and so many people are quick to think its a bug.  I had someone very experienced in the code send me files because he thought we had a bug and it turned out he had the effect set to do a 90 degree rotation.  Others say there's a bug when they dropped a 2 second effect that had a 3 second fade and wonder why it's not showing up.  When it comes to rendering I don't think we have any bugs so if you always assume there's something you can change to fix it that will point you in the right direction.  We are actually going to develop a sequence analyzer tool that can warn you about possible pitfalls like having a big model group rendering after the models it contains and having fades that totally blank out an effect.

I don't know about the rest but one of my favorite effects is a 5 second morph with a 10 second fade in and out. I also add a lot of Blur to emphasize the black. Sometimes I layer that with the Off effect. LOL!!!

Yep and its our fault for allowing you to do that.  Sometimes I think of all our features as tools.  So imagine if we provided you a phillips head and flat head screwdriver I'm sure there would be an issue request that the flat head screwdriver have a display that pops up a warning message if you were attempting to screw a phillips head screw with it.
