Xlights freezes/locksup
« on: August 26, 2016, 12:07:35 PM »
When I was running my matrix, controller connected straight to the pc, the matrix would run effects for a while.  After a couple of minutes, the matrix froze, but xlights would keep displaying what it was supposed to do.  But when I hit stop, and tried to shut off the lights, xlights would not respond and I couldn't get xlights to shutdown without restarting the computer.  I can't get it to stop doing this.  Any idea what is going on?

I don't think this is an issue with xlights, it's probably something to do fpp/bbb/pi, but you didn't explain at all the matrix. Explain your matrix in detail.

The matrix is 19x12 wide, 228 pixels.  I have xlights set to vertical matrix and that is how I set it up.  They are 2811 pixel flat nodes.

Oh, I'm sorry. I was thinking p10 matrix. You are just using pixels.

What controller are you using? Is this issue consistent? Meaning, does it stop at the same point each time?

So far it is happening when I just try effects.  It has happened on different effects.

Well, the track record of the alphapix are very poor. Many of us test just how you are and have no problems. Do you have another controller to test with? Is the firmware updated to the latest. Are you hardwired, not wireless? Do have any other software running, like lightorama? Does the onboard controller test work?

Great!  I am hard wired, straight from the pc to the controller.  I have another controller to test with.  I do not have any other program running.  The on board test works fine and I can run it as long as I want.

I'm not saying your board is bad. But, if you another to try I would to rule it out. Also, I would flash to the latest firmware. I don't have an alphapix, but I remember hearing horror stories on some of the first releases.

Also, try this. Create a new sequence and create only one "on" effect at full white. Have this for the duration of the sequence. If this works then you could have something screwy with your sequence you were testing with.

One of the Falcon boards...
http://pixelcontroller.com/store/index.php

Visit the Falcon forum when you get a chance...
http://falconchristmas.com/forum/

Personally, I would try to get what you have working.  But, the Falcon line is going to be leaps and bounds better than the HolidayCoro stuff.

Edit: you could probably get back some of the money invested in the controllers you have by selling on one of the many forums... DIYC, Falcon, diychristmas.org, here, etc....

I had success with alpha pix last year, but didn't run any matrices

Running these pixels in a matrix really makes no difference. I would try some of the troubleshooting steps I suggested. It might be something really simple.
