Beginning on 2016 Show
« on: October 05, 2016, 09:31:45 PM »
I ran xLights in 2015.  I had directories, sequences, layouts and a setup.  I just finished the new movie file for 2016 and I am ready to begin programming the lights.

I just upgraded to the "Production" version 2016.40 Jul 10, 2016.
The set up for this year will be basically the same as last year but with a few more channels at the end of the setup and maybe not using a few that were used in 2015.
Before I screw something up, what is the process I need to go through (open or move or whatever) to see what I did last year and to begin the additions and changes.

Not sure what you're asking.  I normally just copy everything to a new directory each year so I don't mess up last years stuff.  We've probably done 50 bug fixes since that July 10th v40 build.  I wouldn't get hung up on what we call it because there really is no difference in the versions.  A version called Production did not go through any additional testing than any other version we release.  Also the code we have today is going to be called production with a week or two.

Gil,

Not really concerned about the version.  Good with that.  I just don't want to have to redefine any models or even the overall setup of 2015 show.  99% of it will be good for 2016.

I guess the question is what files do I need to put into the new 2016 Show Directory?  I forget what they all do; i.e., bindings, fseq, xml, rgb things and whatever else.

But before all that; I just went to 2015 show directory, opened a sequence and there is no model window, no house window, no color window--nada.
Clicking on the icons above does nothing and going to the Windows drop down menu and clicking does nothing.  Ideas?

I am not using any sequences from 2015.  2016 will have all new sequences BUT, I am using 99% of the same setup (same universes, channels, etc) and the same models.  That is what I am really wanting to move over to the new 2016 Show Directory.

I am bouncing around, but tonight was the first time I opened my show computer since the last show finished in Dec 2015.

I would start with a new empty show folder and check the basics of the program are working ok ... you can add models ... know up a simple sequence. If everything there is ok then consider copying your show folder and starting to get it working. That will seperate sequence upgrade issues from just getting the latest version working. There have been some big changes this year and a number of people have had video card driver issues.

Charles,

The reason I worry about people using older versions is that you'll be reporting issues we've already fixed.  Anyways if you can't see some of your windows goto View -> Windows -> Dock All.  If you don't want your old sequences then you really only need the xlights_rgbeffects.xml, xlights_keybindings.xml, and xlights_networks.xml files.

Gil/Keith,

I uninstalled all versions of xLights and re-installed 2016.50Sep22,2016.  Last night even windows dock all would not work.
This morning with the fresh install, everything is working.

Now I can get on with my original intent which is using the setup (channels and ports will remain the same) and layout with a very few minor changes.  I will probably add two controller at the end for this year.

What is the best way to accomplish this.  All I have done so far is create a new Show Directory called "Twas the Night".

Copy over the files I told you last post and start modifying.
