Import won't bring in 4 nodes
« on: October 18, 2016, 07:18:55 AM »
Hey all,

Got all my LOR stuff mapped to XL and the import works great.  All but 4 nodes on my roofline.  I checked the effects and they are there in LOR.  I verified the test/lights page and the nodes work, I don't see any duplicates at all in my channel mapping or in my Setup/Layout.  I also don't see any references in the LOR file that are duplicated etc.  If I run the LOR file and output to lights they light.  I have tried at least 4 sequences with the same result.

What would cause just 4 nodes of data to not import from a LOR sequence, right in the middle of a segment?

I have some screenshots as well as the XL to LOR channel map I made.  Thank you!

I have no idea what could be happening but just a tip.  You won't get the best performance out of xLights when you import RGB data like that.  It creates 1000's of tiny effects when you probably could just drop down a few xLights effects to create the same results.  The import should mainly be used for your A/C data.

Ok thank you for the tip. How do you recommend importing all the rgb stuff?

My recommendation is work on leaving it behind.  Do whatever you need to do to bridge the gap for a year and then start creating sequences brand new in xLights.  I did the same thing initially as a lot of others I had hours and hours of work in LOR and I kept trying to maintain it importing it into xLights because I didn't want to lose all that work.  The problem is then you start adding new stuff to your show and you want to shift some channels around and assign new universes and you know how much that sucks to do in LOR.  It ends up tying your hands and making the whole process longer.  Eventually I realized I needed to take the hit and just throw away all my LOR sequences and just redo them in xLights.  The A/C data you can do an Import Effects and bring it in but once you bring it in don't look back.

Ok great thank you. I figure eventually I'll re-do in XL altogether also.  Is there any info on importing as a data layer?  Maybe that will change the 4 node issue?

Yes, the xlights manual covers it.  It can be downloaded on the releases page.
There are videos as well.  I took 5 seconds and typed in Google, "xlights data layer", this is one video that came back.

I have found that the RGB data that gets imported from LOR can be messy, too.   Last year I had to go in & manually delete a bunch of weird data in the data imported from LOR.   Was not a big deal to do that, but took me a while to figure out just what was going on.  I am currently in the process of re-sequencing with only xlights and totally moving away from any of my old LOR effects.   Will probably be 100% there next year...
