My 2016 halloween sequences
« on: October 19, 2016, 09:02:15 AM »
Thank you Sean and the xlights team for such an amazing program. And thank you Dan for the Papagayo function in xlights. The singing faces use to take me weeks to do and now just takes a couple hours.

Here's my 2016 Halloween sequences for anyone that would like to take a look. There's plenty of other posts on how to see/use them, but if you need help please just PM.
Here's the dropbox link...

Here's some videos of the files...
This first one was actually the first xlights seq I did. Started it back in November 2015. Faces effects had only been around for a few months. And back then we couldn't cut and paste yet  :)

Thanks for posting! Any chance that you could post the song information for each sequence? Either here or in a Readme in your directory would be great. Best format is a link, for example, Song Link: https://www.amazon.com/Ghostbusters-From/dp/B00136JS9E

I think we can ignore that last comment from Gil.  When I am looking for a song name I don't know I use the Shazam app on my smartphone and it is usually correct, but sometimes does not give me the correct artist.  At least I have the song name to start with.

I think we can ignore that last comment from Gil.

And why is that Jim?  Because you have no clue what I was pointing out?

Yeah...you're welcome!

Gil was just pointing out that he deserves some thanks as well, which he does.  The papagayo stuff was a "team effort" between him and myself as he got the actual label track stuff working and I got the back end "faces" effect and definitions tied to it.  One wouldn't have worked without the other.

Yep exactly what I considered it ... a "team effort".  I believe at first Sean was wanting someone to see if we could fix the C++ version of Papagayo and maybe embed it in xLights as a module.  I had the idea of trying to make it fit within the program instead of being a module but we really didn't have the capability to do what I was thinking yet.  Then one day Dan added the capability to be able to draw the name/text of a timing effect right on the grid and that's when the idea sparked in my head that I could make our existing timing tracks look like what you see in Papagayo.  So I got that part done being able to import the lyrics into timing effects and then be able to create the breakdowns.  I used the Papagayo dictionaries and some of the logic for how to breakdown phrases and words.  So after all that was done we had the capability to create the phoneme's in xLights but I wasn't sure how we would tie them into effects.  That's when Dan jumped in and rewrote the Faces effect to be able to assign the timing track and do the face definitions and configurations.  If I'm not mistaken I believe Keith even contributed with the drawing of the nodes being selected for the definitions.  Dan probably ended up doing the most work so I mainly take credit for getting the ball rolling with the initial work and ideas for making the timing tracks work like the Papagayo app.

Learn something new everyday, but not from Gil's short hand comments that do not give enough info.  And my comment was after reading somewhere that you get so many messages that you have trouble finding them when you go back, so I just assumed this was a wrong thread post.  But thanks to Dan I know the real story.  I've not followed Papagayo efforts closely since I was not using singing faces prior to this year at Expo.

Thanks for the team effort Gil, now that I know the back story.  Actually thanks for all the things you have built in and all the help you provide folks.  I've used xlights since Sean first came up with it and I appreciate all the developers.  I am amazed at the power of xlights.

There are two this is halloween songs on that CD.. https://www.amazon.com/Tim-Burtons-Nightmare-Before-Christmas/dp/B000IFRQHC - one on disc1 an one on disc2. I have the one from disc1 and it is about 45 seconds shorter than the the sequences....is there an intro added to the sequence you did, or is it the song from the second disc?

I put the introduction from nightmare with this is Halloween using audacity it is a little over 4 minutes, the introduction is 57 seconds done by Patrick Stewart. This may help.
I'm not sure what he has done.
