How to sequence a run
« on: November 15, 2016, 10:47:55 AM »
Hello to all,

I need some help with a particular sequence.  Here is my setup.

I have 10 candy canes.

Each candy cane is made up of 15 RGB pixels (WS2811).

Controller is Falcon F16v2-R

All 10 candy canes are connected to the same output from the F16V2-R

I would like to sequence 2 different types of runs:
1.  Run from candy cane #1 to candy cane #10
2.  Run from the bottom of each candy cane to the top of each candy cane, on all candy canes at the same time.

What would be the best way to sequence the 2 different runs.

Thank you for all your help.

Try changing the buffer settings.

Create a separate model for each candy cane ("Cane1", "Cane2", etc.) then create a group ("CandyCanes") than contains all the individual candy cane models.  Then you can place one effect on the whole group (your scenario #1) or place effects on the individual canes (your scenario #2).

Based on your description of a "run" you are talking about what most of us refer to as a "chase".  In xLights there is no effect called "chase" but the "Single Strand" and "Morph" effects are good ones to use for doing chases.

Thank you for helping a fellow newbie, pixelpuppy.

Yes, that's what I was looking for... a chase.

I do have the models made for each candy cane and I also have a group for all candy canes.

I was hoping that there was a chase effect, just like in LOR.  I am really surprised that there isn't.

I will try the Single Strand and the Morph effects and see how they look.

Thanks again for your help.

Surprised we don't have a chase effect?  This is like you walked into a store and asked to buy a pair of shoes.  We say we have Nike and Adidas.  You say well the store down the street sells shoes I'm surprised you don't have any.  The point is every user shows up saying they want a chase.  When I ask them to define what is a chase I get a gazillion different answers.  We have several effects that will all look like what you may consider a chase.  So what is your definition of a chase?

Hi Gilrock,

Thank you for your patience.  I'm assuming that everyone was a newbie at one point.

Definition of chase 1: Sequentially lighting up all pixels on one candy cane at a time (total of 10 candy canes), from left to right, using all red lights.

Definition of chase 2: Sequentially lighting up one pixel at a time in a candy cane (15 pixels per candy cane), from the bottom to the top, using all red lights.

Thank you
