Creating new models for single color lights
« on: December 01, 2016, 03:20:31 PM »
Ok so I am so confused right now. not sure if I am doing something wrong or what. I have a bunch of Lynx Expresses that I use for the light show in our cul-de-sac normally use LSP to write new sequences but have given up on it for the lack of Mac and Linux support. Have been using Xlights for a number of years to run the show so figured I would give it a shot on writing a new sequence or two for this year.

So all of our lights are single color strands either incandescent or LED. No Fancy multi color nodes or pixel nets or anything like that. So when I create a model I always get something that looks like this in the sequencer.

Bushes
  - Strand 1
     - Node 1

And so I get that for every single channel I have. Is there a way to condense that into a single line? Likewise when I import my old xseq files as data layers they map to the models I have created but I have to open every channel twice to see the effects and make changes.

Long of the short what is the best way to create models for single color lights on single channels?

In the layout tab, under string type enter single color.  You are creating RGB models.

Yeah that is what I changed but maybe I have some other setting weird. Took a quick screen shot of one and the settings that I have on it maybe there is something obviously wrong with it.

I don't use single color, but just created something for testing.  It does the same thing.  Not sure why it matters.  Your effects will go on the model.

Yes all the models can be expanded down to the node level but you don't need to expand it.  Just drop effects at the model level.  If you don't double-click the row you will never see those lower level parts.

So what about when I import old sequences as data layers? When I do that they only get mapped to the nodes and not to the models. Is there an easy way to move or map them to the models? Or will I have to recreate them at the model level with the correct effects?

Data layers aren't editable. So again, why does it matter?

Ok hadn't realized that. New to sequencing via Xlights. So how do you manage old xseq files? Or should I open a new topic under a different category?

I don't know 100% as I didn't use the old stuff. But, after you import as a data layer you can promote to effects, then you can edit then. Check out the manual on the releases page (where you downloaded xlights).

You need to do an "Import Effects" and create a mapping file if you want to bring in effects to the models and be able to edit them.

Thanks guys!! Between the import effects, promote, and render I am in business now. Nice to be able to get out of using a VM for Light Show Pro.
