Trying to test a servo...
« on: December 13, 2016, 02:56:42 PM »
I can't get this to work, if anything could shed some light on me

1) I have a servo motor
2) I have a ServoDog controller card from LOR
3) In xLights, I have the servo assigned to U53, ch 193 (which in LOR speak is Unit ID OD)
4) That translates to channel 24855
5) I have over 65,000 channel defined in xlights with no holes
____________
The Dilemma

The servo responds in LOR with the Servo Utility sending out commands
The servo does nothing sending command out of xLlights (I also tried the Falcon test with no success)

The Method

1) The servo is listed in the sequence and layout and defined as channel 24855
2) There are no overlaps in the layout
3)I am using the DMX effect with a "ramp up and down" as the selected effect in the Effect Setting dialog box
4) In the DMX Effect Setting dialog box, it shows one tab with Ch1-9 and another tab with Ch 10-18.  I have the first tab highlighted and the slider all of the way to the right with a green arrow and the number 255
5) In that same dialog box, I have also tried clicking the green arrow to bring up the value curve, which I selected ramp up down with start level at 0, mid level at 100 and end level at 0.  Wrap values in not checked.  I clicked OK
6) The light bulb icon in the upper right is "yellow"

Neither method works either playing the sequence or going to the test tab.

Ideas?

In xLights, I have the servo assigned to U53, ch 193 (which in LOR speak is Unit ID OD)

0D is DMX channel 97. You want to set your Lor unit ID to 19 for it to be on DMX channel 193.

Not according to this unless I am really cross-eyed:

You're looking at the wrong manual. Look at page 29 and 30

Got it!  They do 8ch per controller with ServoDogs, rather than the normal 16 (which would be ch 193)

Thanks for the awakening.  I appreciate the second set of eyes.

Well, thought I had it, but no.  Still trying to get this servo to work via xlights.

I have it assigned to Unit 19, which in ServoDog world is channel 193.

In xLights, I assign the servo to ch193 and in the layout is something I have not seen.

The layout on every other channel reads:  "Channel [pick a number] (absolute ch)"

This servo reads: "Channel (X) [193] (absolute ch)"

Maybe the servo not working has something to do with this mystery "(X) in the layout table.

Ideas?

Let's talk about the basics, how do you have this controller physically connected to your system.
1 do you have an Lor to DMX crossover cable?
2 are you connected through a USB dongle or are you connecting through a  E1.31 controller board.
3 does the status light on the servo dog show that you have communication?
So what's changing from when you test it with the Lor control panel to when you're trying to run it from xlights. If like you said you're testing it from the falcon with sending a signal out to all channels it should do something unless there's a communication issue
