New LOR convert
« on: December 31, 2016, 09:28:59 AM »
Hey everyone, I've finally had enough of the poor performance of LOR S4 and the jumbled mess of using 3 4 different programs to sequence. I haven't used xlights 4 before, then last time I used it it was still version 3 and was just importing effects into LOR. I had thought about doing this last year but we moved our family from Massachusetts to Florida and bought a new house so time was limited and did the best we could with what we had to work with. Any recommendations of videos to watch or documents to read to get started.
Thanks Tony

Xlights Manual:

Xlights Tutorials:

Haven't watched these, but you might find them beneficial, this is part #1:

I would just watch a few and get the idea.  The most beneficial thing you can do is practice.  Open the software and get familiar with it.  What's better about xlights than LOR, is that xlights is based on models, not channels.  So, start playing around and sequencing.  You can always make changes later and xlights will scale automatically.  With LOR, good luck with that.

Thanks,
That was a major issue this year. I planned out and started sequencing last December for this year. Then in February we made the decision to move. What a B#tch getting the pixel editor stuff to work on the new house so that sounds great that you can make changes and it adjusts. Awesome

Yep, and all for the amazing price of free! However, the developers do accept donations, so please give if you can.

One piece of advice, learn xlights, not how to use xlights like LOR. It can be hard to do and I think we all dealt with it, I know I did. But, once I just forgot what I knew about LOR/vixen (I used vixen too), the transition was a lot easier.

Just my two pennies.

I'm new to Xlights also, and reading this forum has been very helpful, getting my mind in the right gear appears to be necessary.  I've been an LOR user for over 10 years and happy with it, but, I'm looking to try something else.  Thanks for everyone involved for the forums and the software.

That's how I started.  I just wanted 1 pixel tree and some arches.  The problem is you start wanting to do effects that color sweep across the house and the best way is to distribute a lot of pixel elements across the display.  Its taken a few years but I've almost phased out all my A/C led strings.  Luckily I was only 2 years into my LOR setup when I started transitioning so it wasn't hard to let go.

I'm kind of an old school lights person, i don't use any strips. Only bullets or bulbs. I honestly can see myself doing away with all the AC stuff. I've got a guitar playing Christmas tree that I just pretty certain I wouldn't like it made of pixels
