enough interest for a crowd done sequence or two this year?
« on: February 01, 2017, 02:53:46 PM »
Been an interest to see if a crowd sourced sequence of a couple songs would be any good or better than what some of us come up with.

Certainly some of the shared ones are quite good and saved my bacon this last year.

Is there enough interest to pick a couple of songs and split this up among a few folks to sequence a keeper?

I think that would be a great idea. I would be happy to contribute.

I was wondering though, the only shared one I know about currently that I thought was good is star wars funk. Are there others that are of similar quality I could get? If so where do I find them? It's my first year.

And who do you plan on having do these sequences? There are some people who offer sequences for sale that honestly aren't all that great imo.

Most people that are selling sequences are doing so because others were begging to buy them.  Let's see some of yours to find out if they suck or not.

When one has nothing, they will beg for anything.... Never said anything about mine. Just stating I have seen some sequences for sale that looks like they threw some random effects on objectsto make a buck or two from those unwilling to learn and do their own.

I just don't think this thread topic is related to purchased sequences.  It would be an invitation for everyone to contribute.

I took this as a collaboration on building sequences as well, not on organizing a group buy from an established artist.

Honestly among paid sequences if I liked it I probably already bought it.

So if this is an attempt to organize a collaborative effort to build and share sequences I am in.

The author of star wars funk also shared some others as well.  I also enjoyed Lights of Christmas and I am pretty sure that was another completely different share person.

I think we have 3-4 of us, nab a couple of others, maybe someone can toss a link on the facebook group for xlights to see if we can pick up a few more and then we can try to pick a song.

Personally I want something solidly Christmas vs a TSO.

I to took this to be a collaboration on building sequences.  In fact to move this forward I suggest we build the sequences on a common group of models and a common house.  We should also start thinking of songs soon than later.

Thoughts

The way it is worded to me is as if he/she is asking if multiple people want to contribute X amount of money and give said money to 1 or more people who would then create a sequence. One would assume that would then be to people who are known to create and sell sequences. That is why I was asking if they had someone in mind because some people who sell them are sort of on the mediocre side.

That's not how it's worded to me. However, if you think it might be mediocre, don't participate.

I don't know where you think contribute money came in..

This just a thought to get a few of us together and see if as a group we can make a good sequence to share.

E.g. someone might be fabulous at Megatree effects, or getting timing marks just right for the emotion of the song, vs someone that cannot do the outline of a house for nothing but can makes arches steal the show.

jeremy0203 - This is NOT crowd funding, but crowd sequencing where everyone contributes time and talent to the same sequence.  You are confusing the goal.  Kind of like building a house by volunteers, aka Habitat for Humanity.

I agree with you that multiple people working together allows people to focus on their individual talents.

Plus let's face it, sequencing using xlights is pretty simple. The hard part is coming up with new and interesting ideas for a sequence.

I have imported numerous sequences that I have both purchased and found in free sequences. And I have always made substantial changes to those sequences once I imported them.

For one I changed them because I use spokes on the ID of my leaping arches that no one else seems to have in their set-ups, and it is hard to find a model from someone else's sequence that will look proper when imported on them.

But 2, seeing other people's work inspires me. I will see ways to make improvements, like in Logan's Star Wars Funk I changed the light saber's at the beginning to look like actual light sabers, not just a red and green line. And then sometimes I will feed off something in some one else's work and come up with a new variation.

So I am a huge fan of collaborations. So that being said , we probably should come up with a common set-up to sequence from. This way we could work on the same sequence easier. I know someone else mentioned this already, and I agree that it's a great idea.

With a common set-up we could also use collaboration tools like git hub. How do we feel about learning git?
