Sequence crash when rendering
« on: February 17, 2017, 08:57:37 AM »
I am having constant issue with one sequence when I render it.  Had some problems last year in other releases but was able to get it to complete. But this year, I can not get it to render using 2017.2.  I have render 10+ other sequences with zero issues, so I know there is something wrong with this one.
I did run the check sequence and it warned me of some Morph effect so I changed it to Bars and render failed again. No other errors / warnings found should affect render from what I see.  Appreciate any help.

I have Randy's sequences and on 2017.3 the program just hangs while rendering.  Looks to be about 40% done based on the green line.  Only crashes when I kill it using task manager and I have let it run for as long as 5 min.  That same sequence in 2016.55 renders in about 42 seconds.  He has another sequence that does the same thing.  Hangs in 2017.3 and renders quickly in 2016.55.

I think I have found and fixed the problem ... it is hard to be sure. I downloaded these files and also had issues due to exhaustion of resources on my windows machine which may be a side effect of recent performance changes. I have now changed those resources to limit their use to only when they are needed. This may not prevent the problem but it should reduce the chance of it happening.

The problem is I cant be sure this is exactly the problem you were having.

It renders on my machine in 34 seconds now.

My fix will be in 2017.4.

I installed 2017.4  Of the two sequences that failed to render, one now completes just fine, the other has not completed for over 30 min as I started reading forums while giving it time to render.  I have to kill xlights via task manager to get out of it.  I reopened xlights and packaged the log files, but not sure it that is enough since I had to kill xlights and restart in order to gain access to the tools menu.  The problem appears to be in a model called pvc matrix per looking at the render bar detail.

The file you attached does not include the sequence. Please do a package sequence and pm me a dropbox link.

Keith - the file in my first post will not render fine.  Was able to remove data layer and perform import of .lms file. Render worked fine again.
But have another one that I posted on my dropbox account here https://www.dropbox.com/s/irclt4z6zphewc7/08%20-%20Christmas_%20Sarajevo%2012_24%20%28Instrumental%29.zip?dl=0
This is the one that does not generate an error report but just keeps running the render.  The only model it does not render is my PVC Matrix.  All others complete.  That one has 5 layers on it but that should not be the reason.  Anyway, appreciate you taking a look at it.

It seems to be hanging in one of the galaxy effects ... we will look into it.

Gil believes he has this fixed. It will be in v2017.5.

V2017.5 did the trick and the sequence rendered just fine.  Having some LOR import issues but I just went back to an older version, imported LOR sequence, and then rendered it in 2017.5.  So I am good.  Thanks for the fix.

Can you expand on your import issues.

I had already imported 14 songs from LOR after creating a view of AC Channels. When I tried to import the song I attached above, all of the models in the AC Channels were not showing up in either the AC Channels view or the Master view.  Some models I had to add back, some were just not viewable. Then the models in the AC Channels were all mixed in with RGB models and I had to move them around.  Just seemed like the views were not being saved once I created the view and opened up a new sequence.  I had problems with a set of models not importing accurately based on the original source so I imported on another computer with older 2016 version, then moved it to my 2017 version computer and it rendered fine. Not sure if that was an issue on my part of not, but I got it to work.
I have to redo some of the 14 songs because I had a bad mapping, so if I can capture my issue, I will include it in another post.

Keith - just an update. Had to redo my imports due to a mapping error on my part.  All the imports worked fine.  The only issue I had was in opening my 2016 XL file and the views had some models 'hidden' 'not shown'.  I had to make them visible, ensure the Master was showing them correctly, locate them to my standard layout  I wanted and then save/render file.  Even after doing that, the next XL file I opened to perform an import, had the same old view layout.
This was no biggie - I just made the quick view change and performed import.

So I have left all my LOR data layers behind and now have everything imported and now editable in XL.

I am pretty sure that is by design.
