Chase-ish effect?
« on: May 13, 2017, 12:23:45 AM »
I'm new to xlights and have watched a ton of video.  So much that I'm looking for something I can no longer find.  I remember seeing somewhere that xlights allows you to drag an effect diagonally and then across to create a chase of models with that effect.  I remember having to hold shift or control or maybe alt while dragging down.   I can't seem to make it work. If anyone can help me out it would be appreciated.

.
Something a long these lines without having to place each one individually.

Thanks,

Create your effects vertically then highlight ( select) all the effects you want to Chase. While holding the ALT key down you can drag the top left or bottom right to chase the effects where you want them. The shift key will allow you to move them in a group

I will try that a little later.  Thank you very much!

New to Xlights and was trying this with my AC Megatree.  I was trying from the bottom right, not the top left.  Are there any other prerequisites for this?  I looked in the manual about being in node view, but I want to chase across the strands.  Maybe I don't have it set correctly in my model.  I did a megatree with 16 single color strands.  The Alt click and drag is just not working for me for some reason.  Thanks for any pointers in the right direction.

If the Alt drag does not appear to work then maybe you are zoomed in too close.  None of the effects will move until there is enough room for there to be equal spacing between effects.  So if you have 10 stacked effects in a 50ms timing sequence then you won't see anything move until you drag over a minimum of 500ms.  So some users are zoomed in too close and drag and don't see anything happen because they aren't crossing the minimum move threshold.  Below 500ms I wouldn't be able to equally space every effect and would need to choose which effects to end at the same time.  So if you were trying to drag 40 rows in a 50ms sequence the minimum step for the alt drag is 2 seconds.

Thanks Gil.  That worked.
