Difficulty installing 64bit vamp plugins
« on: May 20, 2017, 06:25:52 PM »
OK, I've installed the C++ redistributable and the 64bit vamp plugins.

They are not showing on the Xlights64 timing selections. I just have the main 4.

I've tried uninstall and re-install. Same result.  Any ideas?

Best,
David

You need to install into the folder where you have  xlights eg D:/xlights2017.
Installing into the C: or D: or other drive and into Program files or Program Files (X86) folders don't work.
Install vamp into the xlights folder that you have  and it should then find it

Boof63, that didn't work for me.  I have 2 xlights folders. One called xlights(32bit); and one called xlights64(64bit).

I installed the 64bit vamps into my xlights64 folder. I have a vamp plugins folder now, but it just has uninstall data.  Still doing something incorrect?

David

This is the problem I had ...

Check to see if you have an environment variable named VAMP_PATH.
The value of VAMP_PATH will override any directory you might have it installed.

You can check to see if VAMP_PATH is set by opening a Command Prompt and type:  SET VAMP_PATH
A colon separated path will be displayed if VAMP_PATH is set.
If not, you will see "Environment variable VAMP_PATH not defined".

To change or delete the VAMP_PATH variable, go to
Computer -> Properties -> Advanced -> Environment Variables
This variable could be set as a user variable or system variable.

I chose to delete the VAMP_PATH variable and then install the 64-bit version of the VAMP plugin from the Xlights download.  Restart xLights and the VAMP plugin works!

Still no go. I have removed the path environment variable.

Installing the 64bit vamp in my D:\xlights64 directory.  It creates a Vamp Plugins folder. However, only the uninstall info is there.  Even though I choose this directory, the plugin is installing in C:\Program Files\Vamp Plugins!

Now the crazy part. If I do a search in regedit, it shows the vamp plugin install directory as D:\xlights64\Vamp Plugins!

WTH is it installing in my C:\Program Files directory! It doesn't seem to accept the install directory, using the default no matter what! That is were the dll etc files are located.

Anything else to check?

Scratching Head,
David

I forgot to mention earlier, I believe I had to reboot since, in my case, it was a system variable.
If that doesn't work, you could set the VAMP_PATH path to the 64-bit directory.

I too was quite frustrated.  Don't give up hope.

Hey ItsFitz, already did all those things mentioned. That is why this is so frustrating.  I'm having the same issue trying to install the 32 bit vamp plugins as well. Same issues.

I just don't understand when installing in my D:\xlights64 folder, it wants to install them in the C:\program files folder anyway!   It's like it isn't recognizing my preferred folder to install into.

I get 2 Vamp Plugins Folders everytime.....1 in the Program Files\Vamp Plugins folder; this contains the dll.
and 1 in my D:\xlights64\Vamp Plugins folder. These only contain the uninstall info. I've tried copying from the C: programs folder, creating a sytem variable VAMP_PATH pointing to the D:\xlights64\vamp plugins folders.

That doesn't work either.  Flying a 3 day trip tomorrow, perhaps Keith etal will figure out my mystery. I'm out of ideas.  I have never had this much difficulty installing the vamps. Thanks again for the input.

Best,
David

hi my apology, i forgot to add ( lightbulb moment after reading posts), i went to actual vamp download site, via google, not through xlights forum page. XL4 forum download always gave me folder but no files after setup.
Went direct to  Vamp website downloaded from there and success, apologies for the mental blank and contributing to your PO'D ( i was same) hope i have this right for you now
cheers and my apology

OK back in town from trip. Gonna try and retackle this vamp issue.

Is there a big diff. if any from the 32 bit vamp plugins to the 64bit plugins. If not, maybe I'll just download from the OM vamp site.  If the win32 QM vamps will work in my 64bit xlights, then should be OK.

Any other thoughts ideas, I'm all ears.   Sent a message to Keith as well,  maybe he'll have a clue from my submitted log file. This just doesn't make any since.

Best,
David
