problems using import effects on mac ver 2017.14
« on: May 29, 2017, 04:44:41 PM »
When mapping my elements to the imported elements I have difficulty working out what I click on to get the imported element appear in my element map. It sort of works after double clicking in my element and the imported element but is very much trial and error. maybe I am missing something in how to map the elements.

Also looking at the resulting map text file I see a column marked white, what is that about?

May I suggest you create a video?  It seems pretty easy when I've tried it and I did not write that function.

It looks like the cell is not updating until you leave it. So, if you drag or double click to enter the value, if you click on the cell below does it "show up".

Hitting enter might force an update as well.

Yes that would explain what I was seeing as well. So a little bug in the import effects on the MAC. Was this behavior the same on the Windows version as well?

In the mean time I will hit enter after copying to the cell.

You keep mentioning Sean...he's not here yet.  I haven't seen a display issue on Windows.  I just drag and drop the items into the cells.  First I would suggest just drag the model over and drop it without trying to click on the cell first.  Select the destination should not be required and all that's doing is putting that highlight across the row which may be why you can't see the text.  Anyways it still looks useable.  Just drop them in and when you grab each new model the previous one will probably show itself.

Sorry Gil, the email that I got when the thread was updated appears to come from Sean, got a little confused.

Anyway, I expected that the way this worked I would just drag and drop the model from the right side to my models on the left. and it does work except that you also have to press CR or click in another cell for it to show in the left side models map. I get your point about not selecting the left side first but as I was not seeing the model appear after dragging I was trying to figure out how it was working.

Yeah the emails used to look like they were coming from xLights and then Sean made a change and now it looks like his name.  If you look at the quicklinks above where it says "Sean Meighan >> Welcome >> ..." that first name I believe is what is used for the emails.

Anyways can you try just drag and dropping a few in a row and see if it works without the extra clicks.  Don't worry about not seeing it after each drop...only do an extra click to see the last one.  Not saying we shouldn't try to fix it but we are usually limited to Dan fixing it when it may be a Mac only issue.  If it works for him then it could be a difference is hardware/graphics drivers.  How old is your machine and is everything updated?

Not quite working

I drag from right model to left model for multiple rows and nothing is set in the left side

I have to drag right to left then click in a different cell for it to set.

I am on OS X Sierra 10.12.6  which is on the beta track so this may part of the issue. I can workaround this for now until Dan can take a look at the issue.

I have similar issues importing on mac using 2017.15 and macOS 10.12.6.  I have a macbook air (13", early2015) according to "about this mac".  I have to select my model first (allow cell to go blue), then double click on the available model (so it goes blue and mine goes grey), then double click back in my model,  If I want to import the same model to others models I have I can double click down.  I cant get drag and drop to work.  I watched the release video that Keith did showing how to do the import, but wasn't able to concentrate on it fully as i was distracted.  Just didn't get a chance to go back and watch it again, but it did look like I should be able to pick up the import model and drop it on mine?

Sorry I was reading your reply and I got distracted.  Haven't had time to come back and finish it yet. ;)

I have exchanged some messages with dan. He is looking into the issue on the Mac. But to set expectations the cause is not obvious and may therefore take some time to resolve.

I've just uploaded a 2017.15b version that more or less fixes this.   HOWEVER, it involved completely rebuilding wxWidgets with some new flags and based on the latest code from the git repository/master branch.   Thus, other problems could possibly pop up.   I already discovered (and fixed) one issue related to scaled icons in the tree view of the Layout panel.

For those folks building from source, I updated the README.osx with the new flags.

That looks much better Dan with the drag and drop for the import effects on the Mac. thanks so much for fixing this. btw I like that the available model now is a different color when it as been used.
