sluggish LOR
« on: October 24, 2014, 09:28:31 PM »
Added a 2400 pixel mega tree this year, Created the effects in NC and exported to LOR. The LMS file has now increased in size to over 30 MB and LOR player has become sluggish and the lights are not being driven as per timing, Changed the settings from Multicast to Unicast but that doesnt seem to help. Any advice/tips from the experts.

Thanks

i think most people who are happy do this

1) Sequence AC channels in LOR
2) Convert lms into xseq in CONVERT tab of xlights
3) Add Nutcracker effects
4) Play show in xlights for season or export an fseq file and play show in falcon pi player
This method can play 64K channels with no lag.
Loading each sequence, 1 second.

People who have problems
1) Sequence AC channels in LOR
2) Convert lms into xseq in CONVERT tab of xlights
3) Export as lms or lcb. Greatly increas channels in LOR
4) Play show from LOR
This only gets worse and worse as the channel count gets higher
Loading a sequence more than 1 second.

You can do it the second way, but i think it will always be sluggish

Sean,

I want to do it the first way but the learning curve seems to be very high. I was also not able to see a video which shows the steps end to end.

Today I converted the 25MB LOR file to xseq but was not able to drive the lights. Got a meesage ( Port cannot be opened, Shut down LOR control panel and restart Xlight). Did all of that but still was not able to output to lights !!

Not sure what error I am doing.

Regards

After you do that please post picture of your SETUP  tab

Make sure you are running compressed sequences (.LCS) in your LOR SHOW program.

To use LOR in Xlights you need to change your Lor channels to DMX, then you need a crossover cable, I was in the same boat as you are, Lor could no longer handle the show, I changed over to Xlights and will let it be my neew software for this year.

In the LOR sequence editor this does not show up. Only LMS files can be chosen here.

What you need to do is physically change each Lor channel to Dmx

Ok,
I was thinking about using xLights/Nutcracker to create some effects, put it into a dummy LOR file, then drop that into LOR. I only have a 170 pixel (510 channel) sign and a 960 pixel (2880 channel) mega tree. I will have a handful of 27, 9 and 3 channel dmx controllers doing the dumb strips and nodes.

Running a I3 Win 8.1 laptop with 4 gig ram.  Will this run sluggish? Have got everything setup yet so I can't test it.

xLights is perfectly able to run that sequence. I convert all my LOR programming (LMS files from LOR Advanced) and use it in xLights. Since you're using DMX already, it is a pretty easy way to go and avoid the large LMS file sizes and load times.

I really would like to use LOR to run it though. I worked out a lot of kinks with projection system and with RDS . I realize you can probably do all of that in xlights. It will be one less thing on my to do list for the Christmas display.
