Problem getting lights to work on Falcon F16V3
« on: July 01, 2017, 07:39:52 PM »
I'm sure this is probably something I've done wrong but I can't seem to get Xlights output to go through my new Falcon board.  I can communicate with the Falcon via network and can test the lights with the Falcon test.  When I try to test through xLights I don't get anything to light.  I'm using GECE with 5V hookup on Falcon.  I am just testing one string (my initial goal was just to make sure the GECE worked).  I'm showing packets being received on the Falcon.   I'm using 2017.18 xLights.  My next test was going to run 12 V into the Falcon and only run data to the GECE and add 5VDC separately into the string.

Second question on running a separate 12V and 5V supply.  I understand I can run Grnd and Data to the GECE even though I'm running 12V.  Do I need to tie the grounds of the 2 supplies together?

I've attached my xLight and Falcon info.

Thanks for all the help!

OK more info.  I put 12V into the Falcon and tested with 12V lights and they work through Xlights.  So I'm guessing I need to run a separate power source to the GECE 5V lights?   I read in the manual it was recommended but I was a little paranoid about running data + grnd from 12V without the V+ before getting them to work.  I thought one string of 48 GECE wouldn't be an issue.    Guess that's what I'll try next.

You must tie all power supply grounds together.

I seem to be answering my own questions but I guess it may help someone that may run across the same issues.  I got my GECE lights to work running 12V on the F16V3 and only running a Data line to the lights and feeding a separate 5V supply to the lights with a common ground as I remember seeing someone recommending.   I didn't want to run 5V into the Falcon because I only needed 2 ports running 5V.

One thing I did run into is if I set the GECE strings to RGB in the F16V3 the Red and Blue are reversed when testing using the Falcon.  I set them to BGR and they tested OK but then were reversed in xLights so I moved them back to RGB because they work fine with xLights.
