did all that and what occurs on my screen and what the manual state are two different things.  It does not allow me to import an existing model.  docs are for 2016.45 and I have 2017.19 loaded.

Explain how you are trying.  How is it not allowing?  It works for me, click import button then draw on the canvas, then file name dialog opens.

Most of the basic operations has not changed even into 2017.

You need to video or screen capture what you are seeing step by step. Then we might be better able to help you.

What if you are trying to export all models from one computer and move them to another?
that doesn't seem to use the Xmodel file type.

You're going to confuse everyone responding to a 6 month old post.  For what you are talking about you wouldn't export you just copy the show directory contents from one computer to another.
