New release, 3.4.24. New feature, Views
« on: October 28, 2014, 12:42:11 AM »
Release 3.4.24
----------------

Dave Pitts has a added a neat feature, views.
Problem: You have 30-40 columns, one for each model. You are scrolling right to left modifying effects
Solution: Views. Views allow you to pick a subset of models that you want to work on. Give it a name. Now when you open a sequence, apply the view. Only those models in your view will show
Question: Does this affect the save process? Answer: No. Even though you view may show 5 of the 50 columns you have, when you press save all 50 will be saved.

Dan Kulp has added a feature to the Star Model.
If your star is in concentric rings (30,20,10) (50,30,20) , you can specify these when creating the model.

I have increased the maximum size of a custom model from 300x300 to 1000x1000

Finally, Don Julien continues to improve the Papagayo effects

XLIGHTS/NUTCRACKER RELEASE NOTES:
=================================
3.4.24   Oct 28, 2014
-enh (dpitts) New feature to allow creating views. A view is a collection of models. When you select a view it acts
like a filter and only shows you the models contained in your view.
-enh (dkulp) Star model can now have multiple star size “layers” to model exploding star type things
Example: a 100 node star may have 50 for the outer layer, 30 for the middle, 20 for the inner.
-bug (djulien) Fixed multi-cell morph (caused Papagayo flicker), avoid error if try to save file with no pgo data
-enh (sean) Increased custom model from 300x300 to 1000x1000

hmmmm

Installed the new version and it looked normal, but it will not start. I click the icon pinned on my Taskbar (win8) and it begins to load, then nothing.

Reinstalled 3.4.24. Still nothing.

Reinstalled 3.4.23.  It works

Reinstalled 3.4.24.  Never actually opens. Nothing running in Task Manager.

Windows 8.1, 64bit

Also went to my Vista 32bit computer.  3.4.23 works fine. 3.4.24 gives me an error message and quits. The message isn't useful, just that there was an error loading and that Windows will notify if there is a fix for the problem. Not holding my breath for that. ;)

I'll try again later. Perhaps a reboot would help. Or install in a new folder.

It did install and run on my work PC (Win 7 64bit)

I've done the install twice win7 x64 core i7 and it does not run for me.  Reinstalled 4.23 and all is well.  Re-downloaded and still did not run.  The install runs, but the program does not.  Starts with the spinning circle and then just goes away.

Just went and redownloaded to my laptop and installed.  The readme files show up but the program will not run.  I unstalled the old version first.  After it did not work went back and installed 4.23  without any reinstall or reboot and it works file.

Jim - sorry that it doesn't work for you. but - also glad that I'm not alone.

Now - what is common between our computers?  I use the ESET (NOD32) Security Suite.  How about you? Could that be a common link?  I'll check the System Logs when I get home tonight (but it will be late).

On the desktop I have MS Security Essentials.  On the laptop (sad to say) I have no AV, but since every release prior has installed cleanly, I am at a loss.  This laptop is an old laptop but with Win 7 and 3 gb of RAM.  I don't do anything on it other than lighting stuff and the only web stuff is looking at the Christmas forums.  I will try the install on my good laptop after dinner.  I have not been doing any updates or anything with my computers lately since I had a yard full of landscape contractors and bricklayers all of last week.

Also I will be at my Cardiologist on Friday for a pacemaker check.  That is my most important computer. I think he will tell me I have about 18 months to go on this one before the batteries are dead.  It's interesting that when a new one is needed they call it a battery replacement, but it is actually a replacement of the whole pacemaker since the batteries are sealed inside it.  It is done with only local anesthetic and usually on an outpatient basis.

At this time of the year I don't ever update software if it is working well, I always wait until after show season, I hope you guys get it working.

at any time people can stop and use the last version that has everything you need for your showl. most sequencers freeze code in august/september.

i have posted a DEBUG version of 3.4.24 (it is 39mbytes in size instead of 13mbytes). This has extra messages if something goes wrong. I have now installed it on Windows 7 and Windows 8. Desktop with AMD, i5 and a dell laptop. All 3 work as expected. Still trying to duplicate the issue.

They both look the same to me.   DEBUG version of 3.4.24 (it is 39mbytes in size instead of 13mbytes).
