Support for RGBW nodes

I'm examining replacing the guts to my GECE bulbs with my own RGBW pixels.  After having purchased some RGBW to test with, I soon realized when trying to setup the model in xlights that the RGBW selection was 4 channles total for a string (like for a superstring) vs. 4 channels per node.

Wonder if there is any interest (other than me) for adding an RGBW node type?  Not even sure how that would affect all the effects used within the program itself.

Just thought i'd inquire. :)

This has been discussed at length before.  The main issue is you are going to be dropping RGB effects onto the model so how do we decide that you want the white channel to activate?

My initial thought would be only if the RGB channels were equal.

Second thought is to only apply RGB effects to a RGBW string, taking into account the 4th channel is white (and not used for current effects).  A separate effect could be made to only effect that 4th white channel, and could be layered with other effects on the timeline if wanting to use the white channel.  Perhaps making a checkbox for the existing node types (all the different color order types) that change the string from RGB to RGBW.

I'll search around again on my PC for previous discussions. Searching on my phone thru taptalk is a nightmare.

My recommendation is don't buy RGBW smart pixels.  Not sure why you would even want that.

Lol. Gotcha.
I want(ed) it as my plan was to use RGBWW, where the white is a warm white. I like warm white better for the house outline. No big deal, I'll move forward with plan 2.

RGBA and RGBV have some really neat uses.  Maybe next year.

I use the RGBW model for my MightyMini floods.  Like Gil said, they are basically a four channel string.
