XLights Setup for Falcon F4V3 serial output to Renard Controllers
« on: September 04, 2017, 01:47:52 PM »
I have XLights and my Falcon F4V3 board working correctly together to control my pixel models.  I am now trying to add in my Renard controlled AC strings.

I have the Falcon board serial output set to DMX output, and I have made a DMX to Renard converting cable which is going from the Falcon serial output to my first Renard controller.  I have set my baud rate and stop bits to the appropriate settings in the Serial Output tab.

In XLights setup screen I have Output 1, E131, Multicast, Univ 1, 256 channels, Active.  My Renard models are on channels 1-256 in my XLights layout.

Is this the correct way to set this up?  If not how should I do the setup for this output?  I am currently not getting any lights when I go into the Test tool.

Is your Rx /Tx status light on the Renard showing that it's receiving data?
It should be on flashing very rapidly almost solid.
Also make sure that your data is going into the J1 RX port on the Renard.

Yes, my RX/TX light is flashing rapidly and I do have the cable from the Falcon going to J1 RX input.

When I open the XLights test tool and choose my Renard channels I am getting an Error Message " An error occured open output 1 (Renard Output) Do you wnat to continue trying to start output?  I choose YES then I get a Warning of "At least one output could not be started.  See log for details."

Xlights needs to be configured with those channels as an E1.31 output mapped to the serial Port that you're using on the Falcon board.
At this point we know that you have a connection between the falcon and your Renard bored and that it's working properly and it sounds like it's a setup problem in xlights.
Maybe show a screenshot of your network setup as well as a screenshot of your AC lights set up. And a screenshot of your Falcon serial Port output page.

I have attached both my XLights setup and my Falcon Serial Output pages.  I am not sure what you are asking to see for my AC Lights setup.

Are you saying with that configuration you are getting an error when you try xlights test mode? I would like to see your log if that is the case.

Tools
Package log files.
Keith is better equipped to help you with this than I am.

Ok  so the log says:

2017-09-04 21:14:04,609 4424 log_base [ERROR] E131Output: Error opening datagram ... network may not be connected.

Was the network connected?

When you ran check sequence it was trying to send data out via 192.168.1.14

Is this the only ip address on your machine?

I loaded up your show directory on my machine and went into test mode no problems.

Need more information

Was the network connected?  Yes

When you ran check sequence it was trying to send data out via 192.168.1.14

Is this the only ip address on your machine? IP address on machine is 192.168.1.12/24 when checked this morning

I loaded up your show directory on my machine and went into test mode no problems.

Need more information

I was able to run a Pixel test on a new model with this exact setup last month.  I do not believe anything has changed since then.  Let me know what else you need to know, or need me to do.

Thanks for your assistance!

So either the address changed or something's else is going on. I assume you are not forcing a local ip. When .27 comes out hopefully today I have added some extra logging to tell us exactly why the network failed.

No, I am not manually setting the IP address.  I will watch for .27 and upload it as soon as I can, then post back the results.  I did find a printer on my network that had the same .12 address manually set, but that has been changed back to automatic and I have rebooted this machine.  It still has the same address I sent you this morning, and continues to give me the same error message.
