power injection question
« on: September 07, 2017, 07:15:59 PM »
I'm creating a matrix of 8 outputs, each output has 120 pixels, my question is if I should inject power at the end of every 120 pixels or if it will work just fine with the power of the card, thank you.

at 120 you should be fine. I have my own rules I fallow. at the start and end no matter what size and every 300 max on longer strands. when you will see something is on all white the end will fade out turn to a tan color. over power your lights can glow red in an off state and flicker when all white. I'm talking 12volt.

As part of my job I lay out and wire up low voltage door systems so I have a pretty good handle on this part of the lighting world. Just remember one thing power injection is easy just don't over think it.

I have a 5 string 120 nodes per, 12v window matrix. 20 col by 30 rows.  When I power up and do testing from my PI with Picap I can make all the lights come on in all colors, even white, but they are dim until I hook in my power injection cables.  I have an injection point at nodes 241 and 481.

Problem is that 120 pixels can draw over 6.5 amps at 100% so you need to reduce the output to 70% or less.
