Morph checkbox in layer blending window
« on: September 09, 2017, 12:55:52 PM »
Can someone explain how this morph checkbox works?  When I search everything I find is related to the morph effect, not this checkbox.  For me all I can get it to do is fade out but Im guessing it does more or else it would be pointless... I'd just use the fade out transition.

Thanks

Actually that is not related to the morph effect at all.

It tells xLights to 'morph' the current effect into the next effect. i.e. it will fade the current effect into the next effect. Another way to think of it is that it like a picture morph of one face to another. It eliminates a sharp transition from one effect to another.

Yeah truth is that checkbox isn't needed anymore.  It was used to have effect 1 fade out and effect 2 fade in.  Now that we have multiple layers and transitions it's kinda useless.

Thinking about this we should really delete the checkbox and convert existing sequences to have a 50% fade out because thats all it does.

Thanks for the confirmation.  I thought it would blend from one to the next but could only get it to fade out to black.  Now I know why.  Glad I'm wasn't missing something.

So... using "multiple layers and transitions,"  how would you create a blend from one effect to the next?  I've messed around with adding a second layer and various blending and transitions but can't get it to look like I want.  Also checked out lots of videos but can't find one that does what I want.  LSP has a "auto-blend" checkbox.  You can leave a gap between transitions, then fill the gap with an on effect and select auto-blend between the two.  Im sure I can do something like this here but can't figure it out.

nevermind, i was overthinking it.  i was creating my effects on the same line and trying to create a third on the second layer to blend.  after posting i realized that i could simply put effect two on the second layer and select "1 reveals 2."
