TSO's Nutrocker
« on: September 12, 2017, 01:39:06 PM »
I am looking to use the Piano effect on a matrix with TSO's Nutrocker.

Does anyone have the note breakdown for the song; I am not musically adept enough to figure out the notes and chords.  TIA.

If no one can supply you the notes, or you can't find them online, you could always create a new timing track using the Polyphonic Transcription. Not perfect but it may be good enough for the effect depending on how accurate you want to be.

I wrote guide for the piano effect a while back, see attached, that may be helpful if you haven't used it before.

I just downloaded and read your guide.  Very nice.  Thank you for sharing.

I have tried the import notes, but like you, have no musical background and I'm not sure how accurate they are.  It sure seems like alot of notes.  And I mean ALOT. Ha!

I am shocked that no one has done this; it's seems like an obvious thing to do with that song.  Or maybe they have and just don't want to share: "He wants my Precious but he can't have it! He's being tricksy. He can't have my Precious!"   ;D

I have a plan B.  My neighbor is a retired piano teacher.  She owes me a favor because I salvaged her computer files when her computer crashed.  Plus she loves our light show.

When I get it from her, I will share it.  I will share it so hard.

I was experimenting with the Polyphonic Transcription in xLights but was not getting any notes either ABC or Numeric. Not sure why, but i opened Audacity and used it with the same song and got the notes in number format. The problem was they all had .000 after each number. I solved that by using Notepad on the exported file and did a replace on the .000 with nothing. I just had to go thru and fix a couple of the first two columns that have to do with the timing. After that I just imported notes and selected the file into xLights and it automatically switched to the ABC transcription of notes.

Hope this helps.

So I bought the sheet music off of Amazon.  Cheap enough -- under $5 and had my neighbor "translate" it for me.  I did not use the entire song for my sequence, just the two most iconic melodies.  For anyone interested, the opening is as follows, with each chord in parenthesis:  (G,B,D)(G,B,D)(G,B,D)(G,B,D)(G,B,E)(G,B,E)(B,D,F#)(G,B,D)(G,B,E) and repeat.  The next one I used started around 35 seconds into the song:  (G,B,D)(G,B,D)(G,B,D)(G,B,E)(G,B,E)(G,B,D)(G,B,D)(G,B,D)(G,B,E) and repeat.  These basic patterns are repeated throughout the song.

Name the timing mark for the chords, and make an unnamed timing mark gap between the chords to turn the piano keys off since the chords are repeated.  It makes for a very realistic piano display on a matrix.  I will post the video on my vimeo page when things are up and running. Thanks again to all those who responded.  Have a great season!
