Hey folks, thoughts on mapping Arches, and projector help
« on: September 16, 2017, 10:17:11 PM »
Hey folks, now that we have the awesome methods for sub models, I'm redoing all my mapping for lilias and holiday light sequences.

Re Lillias. I have 3 150pixel strands I divide into 6 arches.   Lilia and Sean have 15 arches.
Can I create sub models of the arches to generate the 15 arches? IE my arch 1 would also be arch 7 of a sub model, mapped to Lilias arch 7 etc.  Would that work, or is it even necessary. I don't think I can map several objects to my 1 object. IE her Arch 1 and Arch 7 to my Arch 1

Thinking of using some projection this year for Halloween(atmosFearX) I don't recall any tutorials, vids etc on how to use projectors in xlights.  I don't recaur manual. If it's in our vids...apologies I missed it.  Any info appreciated.

Thanks
David

Regarding the use of projectors, there is essentially nothing in xlights for that (at least, that I'm aware of).

For sequencing, you might want to create a dummy-matrix (one that isn't actually mapped to live channels), and have your video "play" on this matrix.  This would allow you to see what's happening on the video when you sequence your other models.  For me, this really made my rendering-time a lot longer, so I had to do without.

As far as actually playing your sequence, I used FPP/Pi.  I used the video output (HDMI or composite-out) of the Pi.  FPP allows you to load a video media-type for playback (just like audio).

This, at least, is what I figured out, and made work.  Maybe there are other (better) options.

Your arch question is very confusing. An option you always have is to create a shadow model of your arch. Ie. a second arch on the unassigned preview with the same start channel.

Thanks guys.  Keith re the arches. I see what you are saying.

After looking at the seq. I have from Lilia, it doesn't look like she does many chases of the arches.  I believe I can make do with my 6 arches.

My concern was,,in the seq if Lilia was doing a chase across the 15 arches, after my six had finished their effects, I would have my arches doing nothing while the seq. continued chasing through her 15 arches.

IE her Arch7-15 would be chasing, but my arches would be dark. Hope that made better sense.  I was trying to find away to have the arches repeat with her sequence if there was a chase.

For the issue where

Generally this won't happen if the effect has been put across a whole arch group, though you might need to change timings.

If the effect has been put across each arch in sequence, then one  thing you can do is create an extra layer for each of your 6 arches then copy lilia's arch 7-15 to fill in the gaps.
I know just enough to be dangerous :0
