Renard model
« on: September 29, 2017, 09:18:38 PM »
Hey All,

I'm attempting to add my Renard strings to XL/NC.  I am using a pixel controller via E1.31 to drive my Renards.

When I create a custom model in the XL/NC "layout" tab under "Custom" there is a choice for "Controller Connection".  When I click on that it shows me a list of protocols (Renard, WS2811, etc).  Then right below the "Protocol" drop down there is another drop down for "Port".  The ports are all 1, 2, 3, 4..........etc.

So here's my question.  Since I'm adding Renards to my already existing pixel setup and I'm using my pixel controller via E1.31 what do I use for a port?  I'm not doing a serial output...it's E1.31...yet there's no choice in "Port" dropdown for E1.31.

Can someone chime in and tell me what I need to do to finish setting up this Renard model as it pertains to the "controller connection" tab?

Controller connection is used to configure your controller. If you are manually configuring your controller leave it blank. If you have your renard off your controller set the protocol to renard and the number to the serial output connection number on the controller.

How can there be a "serial output connection number" when the controller is using an E1.31 protocol?  Isn't "serial output connection" for a comm port configuration whereas E1.31 is network based?

Are you connecting your Renard to the output of a Falcon or similar E1.31 controller? If so the important thing is the configuration of the Falcon controller serial output port and what universe the serial port is mapped to.

I have both Falcon and San Devices controllers.  For my Renards I'm using an E682 to output the Renard data and its outputs are configured with jumpers....there is no place to choose/assign/view a port number.

E682 only has only one serial output ... so connection would be Renard:1
