HELP!!!
« on: October 29, 2017, 12:12:37 PM »
WARNING: Long Post, if that bothers you, don't bloody read it!

This will probably set off a firestorm But you know what, at this point I don't care!
I would be willing to bet that there are others that have some of the same thoughts.

Help, were does one go to get help?  As I sit here for the last 2 hrs watching the blue LED's on my BBG flash when flashing the eMMC with version 1.5, and most likely bricking my 3rd BBG; and seeing a lift I rented on Thursday at 285/day perplexed why the procedure worked great on the first BBG but bricked at least 2 using the same procedure.

You go to the site/sites you believe would have all the info you could possibly need. Or you make a post/posts on a FB support page, hoping that someone, hopefully the dev of the firmware/software giving you issues will respond...you hope in a timely manner. You anxiously check back to see if anyone can give you an idea.

Nope! NO responses, several views though, but no info forth coming. You up your research again searching google...ahh here's something. You find a thread that has the exact same problem you do. OK, what fixed it?

Lessee, this was back in May, you read very carefully in hopes of finding the solution as this individual did. You even see the dev get involved so you figure OK we'll get a solution. Thread goes on a few days, dev says he'll check into it..solution...nope! Thread dies with no answers. Rinse and repeat. Or the dev answers in a way that dev's do, you have to have a degree in computer science to understand something they do every day.

Or you make a posting on a forum, website etc. You want to make sure everyone understands what your issue was/is and give a detailed description hoping to get the problem resolved, you wait and hope someone answers quickly.  You check the thread, yes, an answer. Unfortunately, it will either be a snarky comment, usually implying you wrote too much info, then when you try and be more succinct, you have someone tell you there is not enough info...WTH. How are you supposed to explain things then. Seems your damned if you do, damned if you don't.   Just what a person wants, snarky unhelpful comments. You want a solution hopefully to your problem/issue so you too can have a show running.

Then you have those fun people that interject the helpful thought of why did you wait so late.  It's called LIFE people, $hit happens! You deal with it.

Finally, you take a element you used in your show last year...worked great(P10). You get ready to set up. Do some research, aha there is a new FPP build for my BBG. You do some more checking to see if the build is stable, yep everyone is loving it.  You d/l the build, install per instructions, then all hells breaks loose. This stable build is causing you all kinds of issues.  You make postings of you errors and issues, again no responses. Oh but you can bet the snarky responses will show up, just most likely not helpful ones.

So,here you are after 3 days $$$ each day, nothing accomplished because nothing is working as advertised. All you want to do is return to an earlier more stable version that worked for you. Now, you can't even do that .

What do you do? Where do you get real help?  After 3 days, I don't know anymore.  Just paid $50 to Darrell Peligan, maybe he can solve my issues..I just don't know anymore. Past the point of trying to get a Halloween show going...I just want the damn things to work!!

Aaaannnddd....just bricked my 3rd BBG......NIce!

OK, flame away!  I just don't care right now.

Best,
David

Sorry David but bbg are not my area of expertise. I run a bbb for my p10s and haven't upgraded it since I built it 3 years ago. At this point it is if it ain't broke don't fix it.

Understand Keith, I've learned that lesson the hard way.  Now I've discovered due to my BBG's being new, the 1.5 eMMC flash won't work on them!  So, I have to get 1.9 working if I want to use my P10's

Just keeps getting better.

Thank You for the civil response, just don't need snarky from anyone right now. If they were in my place, I believe they would feel the same.

Best,
David

Dave, instead of USB Flash Drives for your storage, you could use uSD cards. Since you are using eMMC, the SD slot is open.

Try it on one and see if it is more stable. Doesn't have to be huge capacity to test. There are only two differences between your Octoscroller setups and mine. I use wireless instead of CAT5. I use SD card instead of flash drive. (without using a hub, I couldn't use the flash drive anyway since the Edimax dongle is there)
