working in layout
« on: December 11, 2017, 12:34:58 PM »
I am thinking of making a second star for my house. It will be like the star on the tree, but with 5 extra pixels. The tree star is a 5 point star with 50 total pixels, layered 20,30. the second star will also be 5 points, 55 pixels, layered 5,20,30. When I did it layout it gave me only 4 pixels in the first layer, should have been 5 pixels. I did it three times each time it left out pixel #3. what did I do wrong? I looked at the node layout and it did not show pixel #3 both times. Charlie J.

Sorry guys I'm having a brain freeze. I know I've seen the rgb effect file, but I cannot find it. Please direct me to it and I'll send it. By the way I'm using 2017.32 Oct 09 2017 version.

You could also try check sequence. It may spot something.

I tried taking a look.  One of your files doesn't have a star in it, the other gives me an error when opening.  Are these your current files?

I got the rgb effects Thanks Charlie J.

Those files are not xlights_rgbeffects.xml files.  Those are sequence files with the wrong names.

Can't look now I'm at work but you need to just delete that xlights_rgbeffects.fseq file from your system.   That means you tried to open your models file as if it was a sequence.

I think we need to back up a little. I'm working on a new prop,( a second star)  the layout for the prop is not correct. I have not yet built the prop or sequenced it yet except in test. I cannot see all the pixels in the layout. The wiring starts in the center layer of 5, and I do not see #3 pixel, in the test sequence there is an output for it, but no pixel in the model only 4 pixels in the first layer (which should be 5 pixels ), 2nd layer 20, 3rd layer 30.  The node layout page only shows 4 pixels in the first layer, skips pixel #3.  The issue is in the layout of the star model. I hope this is helpful in figuring out my problem.   Thanks Charlie J.

It looks like for star layers under 10 nodes, it doesn't really look like a star.

Node 3 is there and should sequence just fine.  Did you actually try it or just get hung up on the node layout not looking right?  Nodes 3 and 4 end up drawn in the same spot.  Not sure if any of the developers want to try to fix the node placement for the star model but its too complex for me to want to sort it out.

I guess I was hung up because I did not see it. Could it be possible that in the node layout page that it could be edited?  It could be useful for minor problems as this. At this time this model is only a thought for next build as now I have a wreath but do like how it looks in some sequences, as I like the star much better. It may wind up being a 60 pixel model. Thanks for your help.  Charlie J.

No you can't edit the node layout.  It's calculating such that both nodes 3 and 4 land in the same spot but node 3 does exist and will light up if you sequence the model.
